Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Automotive Mechanic in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

THE POSITION

Are you ready to demonstrate your mechanical skills? The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) is looking for a skilled mechanic to perform work related to the specialized upfitting, new fleet processing, maintenance, and repair of vehicles of all manufacturers for multiple state agencies. This includes preventative maintenance on diesel trucks ranging from 7,000 to 26,000 pounds. Join us if you're up to the challenge!

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform maintenance and agency-specialized up fitting on vehicles. Duties include:

  • Installing K-9 kennels, prisoner cages, gun racks, lighting, tactical boxes, fire brackets, decals, and slide boxes, both electrical and mechanical,
  • Performing advanced vehicle diagnoses on all vehicle components including but not limited to drivetrains, steering, suspension, brakes, computers, fuel systems, and emissions,
  • Checking for and performing pulse-code modulation (PCM) and transmission control module (TCM) updates as needed,
  • Preparing new vehicles for department use, higher mileage vehicles for reassignment, and unserviceable vehicles for auction, and
  • Providing technical support and feedback to aid in the research, design, and implementation new and customized products related to this process.

*Work Schedule and Additional Information: *

  • Full-time employment. 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • *Salary: *Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

      Necessary Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.

  • This position requires possession of a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class 1 Certified Inspection Mechanic.

      Additional Requirements: 

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
