Are you a Licensed Practical Nurse looking for a non-traditional role? Do you want to make a big difference in children's lives?

The UPMC Child Advocacy Center is looking for a casual Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their team. As mentioned previously, this is a non-traditional LPN position; You will have some administrative duties in addition to working with children who have been physically or sexually abused, severely neglected, or have witnessed a violent crime.

The LPN is an essential part of this team, assisting with medical examinations and using critical thinking skills on a regular basis. Further details about this position will be discussed in the interview process. The children come to the center, and you will work alongside the providers, law enforcement, children and youth officials, and other staff.

HOURS: MONDAY-FRIDAY dayshift, NO WEEKENDS, NO HOLIDAYS. Schedule is somewhat flexible and will be discussed further in interview.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient's general condition, take vital signs and weight.

  • Draw blood and complete lab testing as ordered i.e. obtain urine samples.

  • Assist physicians with medical examinations.

  • Obtain all necessary children and youth reports/paperwork, legal documents/police reports, and photos for the physician prior to the child's visit so the physician has as much information as possible for the medical examination.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

  • Document all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.

  • Help create a safe and guilt free environment for the child.

  • Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.

  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).

  • Comply with all policies and procedures.

  • Administer medications including oral, SQ, IM injection.

  • Perform IV therapy under direction of Registered Nurse.

  • Graduate of an approved LPN school of nursing.

  • 1 year clinical experience preferred, but not required

  • New graduates welcome to apply

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
