Kaiser Aluminum Fabricated Products, LLC Research & Development Lab Manager in Heath, Ohio

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Kaiser's Advanced Engineering group is responsible for product and process optimization and innovation, working closely with our manufacturing organization. This positions' primary responsibility is to ensure safe, successful, timely and cost effective execution of Kaiser's Advanced Engineering projects within the development R&D center based in Kaiser's Heath Ohio facility. This individual will lead and manage the R&D development operations staff that are supporting product and process development, including oversight of Kaiser's R&D facility. This position provides exposure and interaction with a variety of processes and products, allowing the individual to be involved in Kaiser's future development direction.

 

This position requires effective communication of objectives and timely reviews and updates to ensure all team members are appropriately engaged in achieving their goals. The individual must be able to lead a diverse staff, providing sufficient structure for success while providing an environment that encourages and enables creativity. Utilizing, maintaining and enhancing management systems is a key component of this positions responsibilities.

 

Specific Accountability

  • Management oversight of the R&D developmental facility to ensure safe and timely execution of project activity that includes a variety of manufacturing processes, support functions and an analytical laboratory

  • Maintaining and enhancing systems to track activity and project status

  • Maintaining and enhancing quality management systems for the developmental area

  • Create a work atmosphere that is both safety conscious and creative

  • Encourage collaboration and teamwork to maximize the knowledge of the whole organization

  • Provide mentoring to the group, both formally through systematic activities and informally. Additionally, provide skill and career path development opportunities for the team

  • Document and communicate appropriately and efficiently in all directions of the organization to ensure status and knowledge is understood and transferred appropriately. Competent computer skills and communication skills including written documentation are essential for success

  • Willingness and ability to operate equipment in a scaled production environment in support of developmental activities

  • Overall Management of the developmental group which includes:

    • Management of the developmental center projects and work assignments along with communication of status
    • Maintain and improve facilities operational safety and effectiveness including maintenance
    • Development and adherence to an annual budget for the Developmental Center for Excellence
    • Ability to maintain and evolve management tools and quality management system

       

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in Engineering or higher (Metallurgical or Materials Science strongly preferred, others considered)

EXPERIENCE This individual will possess:

Technical Experience

Previous 10+ year's industrial experience in aluminum extrusion manufacturing and/or product & process development is preferred. Relevant engineering project management will be considered

High attention to detail

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

PC skills; Windows office minimum

Laboratory testing technique awareness

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Statistical skills a benefit for analysis of developmental work

Awareness of analytical metallurgy techniques including microstructural prep and analysis, corrosion testing, mechanical prope
