Job Description:
The Specialist, Electrical Engineering will be responsible for the development of shipboard electrical and computer based Naval communications and machinery control systems. Under the direction of a Senior Member of the Engineering Staff, responsibilities include hardware design (electrical, electro-mechanical), packaging, wiring schematics, cable development, prototyping, system integration and test, design and test documentation, and support to manufacturing and the customer.
This is a key, high impact role in the organization to ensure robust quality and delivery of communication products for National Security applications.

Essential Functions:
Typical duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Implement electrical and electro-mechanical designs from technical specifications
Conduct research into the feasibility, operation, and performance of electrical systems
Provide technical writing documentation for electrical systems
Responsible for generating detailed 2D drawings and schematics
Secure design packaging to meet qualification in marine MIL-STD vibration, shock, and EMI environments
Develop technical performance specifications for supplier equipment
Source, assemble, and test protypes and new designs
Document Electrical system setup and configuration
Troubleshoot systems for root cause analysis
Participate in factory and customer acceptance trials (factory and on-ship)
Work closely with both mechanical and software development teams
Provide engineering support to electrical and mechanical production staff
Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship required. Candidates must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
2+ years of experience developing, implementing, prototyping and testing electro-mechanical assemblies
Practical experience with both electrical and mechanical integration is required
Proficient in electrical and mechanical drafting using AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD or equivalent
Demonstrated competency using electronic test equipment
Ability to fault find, test, and resolve electrical system issues
High attention to detail and quality
Must be able to manage own time and deliver to tight deadlines, following strict project plans
Good communication skills:
Ability to constructively express opinion and clearly interchange ideas and solutions with colleagues
Clear and concise writing
Able to work flexible hours and to travel when required (up to 5-10% travel to vessels at port, customer, and/or shipyards may be required)
Preferred Additional Skills:
Marine experience in vessel systems design and/or operations
Working knowledge of marine electrical standards
Familiarity with standards such Coast Guard, Navy, MIL spec, and other marine standards
Knowledge of EMI/EMC management best-practices
Experience with Ethernet networking, serial and CAN bus networks
Proficiency in PLC programming (i.e. Allen-Bradley)
Proficiency in Lab View and high-level programming languages: C/C++, Python, Linux, MATLAB
Proficiency with microcontroller development and IDEs
PCB schematic/layout design with Altium, OrCAD/PADS and other electrical design tools preferred
Development Lab management experience
Project management/technical lead experience
Mechanical aptitude
Willingness to work across functions including wiring control panels and boxes, outfitting boats, pulling and terminating cable, and mechanical assembly
