The Indo-Pacific Regional Operations Department (N254) with the US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) and the Military Service Components on-island to inform warfighter requirements and Concepts of Operation (CONOP), and provides Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems acquisition, engineering, and integration support to the Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Allies in the Pacific Theater. N254 is a dynamic and forward leaning organization that provides direct connections to warfighters. These direct connections allow staff to monitor and participate in current operations and exercises. A key output of this access is the ability to inform technology innovation and capability analysis with operational domain expertise. N254 operational depth and warfighter access has generated considerable expertise in the development and analysis of CONOPS, mission threads, use cases, and operational requirements. The Department establishes links between DoD sponsors and Coalition Partner development activities. N254 is on the cutting edge of current operations and is a major thought leader in force modernization.

Job Description

As a Group Leader supporting a diverse team of MITRE employees located in Hawaii, you will be responsible for building and leading a high performing multi-disciplinary technical team comprised of personnel from multiple departments that includes technical and operational subject matter experts supporting a diverse group of sponsor work programs on island.

The GL is expected to work in partnership with the department manager, and Project Leaders at USINDOPACOM, USARPAC, PACAF, and PACFLT to provide the best “MITRE” staff to related projects and activities that cut across our sponsor work program. The ability to establish relationships and partnerships across critical MITRE Program Divisions and MITRE Labs is key to bringing the entire corporation to the fight on our sponsor’s toughest challenges.

The GL must exercise leadership and have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively supervise, develop, and manage team members. In addition, the GL will work closely with the department manager to ensure the delivery of quality technical products, recruiting, staff development and placement, as well as providing input into the growth of the work program.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Direct Supervisor (DS) and provide overall leadership for group members to facilitate the professional and career development of group staff through positive leadership, coaching, instruction, and mentoring.

  • Provide timely and regular feedback to staff on performance and goal development.

  • Help build and maintain a strong work program and technically proficient staff within the department and division.

  • Participate in the department technical quality process and Mission Value Chain.

  • Partner with the department manager in recruiting activities.

  • Provide strong thought/technical leadership and serve as one of the domain experts in the group while actively contributing to the technical work program as a spectrum engineer.

  • Ensure group members are staffed on projects that align with their skills and allow them to grow technically and professionally

  • Effectively communicate Corporate, Center, and Division strategy.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess and maintain an active DOD Top Secret level security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

  • Typically 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field of study or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Ability to coach, mentor, and advocate for all levels of staff

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to formulate group-level and department-level goals, and persist in their execution until those goals are achieved

  • Desire to develop early career staff and guide them to navigate career options/paths at MITRE

  • Experience leading people as a Group, Task, or Project Lead.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment, often under uncertain circumstances.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top Secret / SCI clearance.

  • Master’s degree in Systems Architecture and Engineering or related fields of study.

  • Two or more years of experience leading people as a Group, Task, or Project Lead.

  • Experience supporting CCMD and Joint Operations
