KBR is seeking an early-career Artemis Crew Health Integrator to support the Human Health and Performance (HH&P) Directorate’s Artemis Program tasks by providing developmental, operational, and integration expertise to the Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA) delegates.

Personnel will support the Artemis Medical Operations Team to prepare for lunar crewed missions (Artemis II and beyond). Primary duties include, but are not limited to, development of flight rules, operational procedures, and training plans, as well as participating in Flight Control Team simulations and supporting real-time console in the Mission Control Center (MCC) as an Artemis Biomedical Flight Controller (call-sign: BME). The function of the BME is to ensure astronaut health and safety by providing operational and technical support as representatives of the HH&P Directorate at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC).

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Represent all HH&P requirements during the design phase and at design milestones (i.e., Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR)).

  • Review verification and certification of vehicles, hardware, and software in development.

  • Maintain a broad knowledge of all HH&P requirements and engage Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the technical details and direction.

  • Integrate HH&P operational activities.

  • Develop and execute a plan for documenting operational processes.

  • Provide insight into compliance with HMTA mandatory standards.

  • Coordinate and participate in Program document and design reviews.

  • Develop summary assessments and follow up on actions.

  • Develop requirements mapping from HMTA standards to Program documents and corresponding gap analysis.

  • Review and assess integrated test and analysis activities.

  • Formulate, summarize, and represent an HH&P position based on subject matter expertise.

  • Develop position papers and/or requirements interpretations for human health and performance issues.

  • Disseminate information to HH&P management and subject matter experts.

  • Obtain Artemis BME Flight Controller certification for supporting MCC operations.

  • Provide Flight Controller operational and engineering support from the Flight Control Room (FCR) and Multi-Purpose Support Room (MPSR) in MCC as it pertains to Medical Operations.

  • Provide technical support to the crew, Flight Surgeons, and other flight control team members for Crew Health and Performance (CHP).

  • Perform below duties for assigned CHP hardware/project:

• Participate in pre-flight design & requirements reviews, provide operational insight and expertise, and prepare for operational execution of new CHP hardware.

• Write, submit, validate, and maintain operational procedures for CHP equipment and crew medical activities.

• Draft/update con ops, requirements, flight rules, activity planning documentation, and technical reference documentation as necessary, including for prebreathe and lunar surface extravehicular activity (EVA) operations.

• Assimilate information from various sources and act as liaison with representatives from Flight Surgeon, Engineering, Training, Exercise Specialists, Laboratory and Science communities that support CHP equipment and requirements.

Incumbent will perform other duties and assignments as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or closely related field, and 0-3 years of related experience.

DESIRED:

Experience working operational issues associated with human spaceflight.

Experience working real-time console support for a space program.

Prior Project Management experience.

SKILLS/TRAINING

REQUIRED:

The candidate shall have demonstrated the ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and self-starter motivation, as well as work well in group environments.

The candidate shall possess strong verbal and written communication skills including delivering presentations, writing reports, and the capability to speak up in Program meetings.

The candidate shall have excellent planning skills.

The candidate shall also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to listen to SMEs, to understand and be well able to represent their expertise.

Completion of a standard flight controller physical examination and government background check are required.

Ability to work in Microsoft Office's suite of tools.

Ability to translate concepts across multiple disciplines.

Relocation funds may be available.
