*This position can be based in any of our Texas offices.

We are looking to expand our design team for the West region. If you’re a Transportation Engineer with a desire to grow a discipline and a team, this could be a great fit!

The Transportation Services Group at CDM Smith is seeking a Roadway Discipline Leader who will help us advance our Roadway Discipline capabilities in the western United States. As a Roadway Discipline Leader, your focus will be on the proper application of technology, growth of our technical capabilities, staff development, pre-positioning and distinguishing CDM Smith for sales growth, improved capture rate, and retention of both clients and staff. you will help our Transportation team grow our technical capabilities, develop employees, and assist with sales growth. We are searching for a thought leader who is confident with clients and will collaborate with our CDM Smith team to showcase our technical differentiators and drive growth.

As an integral member of this team, you will contribute to CDM Smith's success by:

-Driving day-to-day technical content coordination and ensuring high-quality delivery.

-Defining consistent expectations as the technical content leader on transportation projects.

-Establishing consistency and efficiency in project delivery across the organization.

-Improving project quality management, technical disciplines integration, and Intellectual Property reuse, especially on multi-discipline design projects.

-Improving on-budget/on-time delivery.

-Decreasing the risk of claims and reducing project rework.

-Signing and sealing engineering designs as necessary.

-Performing site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.

-Updating design requirements as necessary.

-Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs).

-Meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.

-Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.

-Providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff and mentoring more junior staff and developing them for future growth within the discipline and firm.

-Will supervise the work of junior engineers on project work. Motivating team members to produce high-quality work.

-Nurture the abilities of team members.

  • Being a problem solver who approaches each challenge head-on.

-Collaborate with senior management to help develop strategic plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

-TxDOT, WSDOT, Caltrans, and/or NDOT experience.

-Currently registered as a PE in any or all of the following states; CA, WA, TX, NV, or ability to obtain registration within 6-9 months.

-Excellent technical writing with the ability to develop work plans and document technical discussions required

-Successful multidiscipline team/task management or design lead experience.

-Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Experience with technical design software including Autodesk and Bentley platforms, including ProjectWise.

-Complete understanding of technical project production and delivery methods.

-Critical thinker with an understanding of transportation and/or systems concepts required.

-Experience implementing NACTO guidance on projects preferred.

-Experience in transit and/or urban mobility and active transportation projects preferred.
