Job Description:

As we transition to cleaner forms of energy, the challenge facing the industry is to manage the current asset base to maximize value and pave the path to grow groundbreaking technologies for the future. In this role, you are expected to work closely with several technology leads in Surface Engineering Technology (SET) providing diverse and challenging technical support requiring both engineering knowledge and extensive IT experience. You will also work with technical leaders across Shell, vendors, and external organizations proactively addressing challenges and supporting a portfolio of software technology products utilized by process and discipline engineers. The key traits to succeed in this role are a can-do attitude alongside strong technical and IT skills.

Where you fit in?

The Surface Engineering Technology team develops and leads end to end implementation of a portfolio of technologies in the areas of Process Simulation, Modeling, Real Time Optimization and Discipline Engineering tools across all lines of business, including providing niche advanced technical support activities.

The Surface Engineering team works closely with IT groups in developing software solutions and with Project Services and Asset Support groups in delivering these technology solutions. The team has unique capabilities that are not easily available in the market in areas such as Thermodynamics, Process Modeling, Real Time Optimization, Dynamic Modeling, Process Safeguarding and Asset Integrity & Inspection Management systems. The team works with external suppliers in selecting and adopting market standard technologies in the Process and Discipline Engineering space.

On top of engineering technology & tools delivery, the team provides niche advanced technology solutions to assets in partnership with multiple teams in Technology, IT, Project Services and Asset Support.

What’s the role ?

Working closely with the Surface Engineering Platform Lead, Process Safeguarding Lead, and Process Optimization Manager you will provide engineering and IT support for the Surface Engineering Technology Platform and projects delivered globally across all LoB’s.Key accountabilities:

  • Multi-Purpose Dynamic Simulation (MPDS) Development and Support: Assist in the development and support of MPDS, “True Digital Twin” projects for assets globally, utilizing and combining Process Simulation Tools and PI Vision Graphics.

  • -Smart Perform Development and Support: Expertly assist in the development and support of Smart Perform implementations with a special focus on Corrosion Monitoring and developing/supporting interactive graphics.

  • Troubleshooting and Platform Support: Proactively maintain Department’s Citrix Farm servers and act as troubleshooting focal point for multiple tools. Responsible for first line software/hardware access control of internally hosted tools.

  • General Support for SET: This role is very versatile and requires seeking out and resolving potential issues before they impact users. It also requires regular interaction with users and with the SET Platform Lead to ensure the portfolio is strong and that Shell staff are aware of what is available to them.

Skills and Requirements

What we need from you -

  • Must have a legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in both engineering and IT support; project technical support, IT troubleshooting, and basic programming (HTML, VBA, etc.). This role merges engineering capabilities with IT skills.

  • The applicant should have a related engineering degree preferably Electrical or Chemical

  • The applicant is also expected to have a sound background in IT software and hardware support.

  • Proven skills in quickly determining and independently resolving root causes for project issues.

  • Hands-on Process Engineering Applications Support in areas such as dynamic simulation, corrosion monitoring, and heat transfer equipment monitoring.

  • Knowledge of IT Architecture, IT Service / Support Processes, and Landscape Management
