Job Overview:

Perform and direct electrical engineering for power, oil and gas, and petrochemical projects. Design, analyze and prepare complex project deliverables for power generation systems, substations, power distribution systems, lighting & grounding systems, and other engineering systems as required by each project. Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the industry to address complex problems and nonstandard situations for engineering, fabrication and construction.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge to prepare and supervise the development of key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Specifications and Datasheets

  • Electrical Load List

  • One-line diagrams

  • Motor control schematics

  • Electrical building and equipment layouts

  • Area classification studies and plans

  • Lightning protection

  • Conceptual studies and calculations

  • Relay Coordination

  • Cost and planning studies

  • Lead Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication or construction

  • Function as electrical engineering project lead or electrical task lead

  • Become fully familiar with the project contract, scope of work, basis of design, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues.

  • Report to and coordinate with electrical engineering lead, project engineering manager, project manager, and electrical department manager

  • Supervise and coordinate with electrical engineers and designers

  • Maintain close coordination with other discipline engineers and with the Client’s engineer

  • Carefully evaluate, communicate and manage change with full awareness of project impact

  • Assume responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control

  • Lead the development and support of vendor packages, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Create, issue and manage requisition packages for Substations, Transformers, and Electrical materials

  • Create, issue and manage subcontract packages for Heat Tracing, Cathodic Protection and Electrical Installation

  • Perform and coordinate the review of supplier documents for electrical and non-electrical packages

  • Coordinate and supervise the Inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical equipment, motors and associated skids

  • Lead Site Support, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Lead off-site and/or on-site technical support to Construction personnel

  • Manage all site issues and coordinate with office personnel to resolve issues as needed

  • Develop procedures and provide detailed technical support and supervision for Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of electrical equipment

  • Develop procedures and provide detailed technical support for precommissioning, energization, commissioning and start-up, as required by project

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree may be required by specific regions

  • Minimum 15 years of detailed electrical engineering experience, including 10 years in the oil & gas industry

  • Detailed knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the theory, content and application of standards, codes and guidelines, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE and ANSI, and latest scientific and engineering methods

  • Exceptional project coordination and execution skills

  • In-depth technical knowledge of the detailed design engineering process

  • Advanced experience with Smart Plant Electrical (SPEL), ETAP, MS Office Suite including Excel and Word

  • US Citizen or Green Card holder

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Prefer engineering or other technical degree

  • Prefer PE certificate of registration

  • Prefer experience at site during construction and commissioning
