The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon is seeking a highly motivated Social Worker 1 to join our team. In this position, you participate in the development, implementation, and coordination of social work and case management services to inmates. DESCRIPTION OF WORK Working for the DOC as a Social Worker 1 consists of maintaining contact and communicating with a range of DOC and community staff such as Parole, Forensic Service Directors, Department of Public Welfare, Department of Human Services, and other community providers to manage specific needs and services.

Working individually with the inmates is an integral and rewarding component of working as a Social Worker 1. It allows you a unique opportunity to see firsthand the inmates actively engaging in the growth process.

Responsibilities include assessing inmate psychosocial strengths, weaknesses and social work services needs and eligibility for services. You also assist with reentry and continuity of care services to all eligible inmates. This includes arranging continuity of care and reentry assessments for inmates to determine eligibility for different groups and programs, and assisting with coordinating reentry related program reviews.  In addition, you participate in developing, implementing, and updating general information and orientation programs for inmates in the reentry process.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Special Requirement: All employees in the Department of Corrections must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.
