DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this internship role, you will have the opportunity to support the Park staff on a wide range of projects, allowing you to gain valuable experience in environmental education, park operations, resource management, and administration. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, preparation, and execution of specialized educational and recreational programs within the park and collaborating with other staff members and volunteers. You will be assigned specific projects with clear goals and deadlines, requiring you to work independently and take initiative in planning, researching, collecting data, coordinating, and reporting on the progress and completion of these projects. Additionally, you will have the chance to work alongside the Environmental Education Specialist, helping to facilitate educational and interpretive programs for the public, as well as gaining knowledge about the park's history and providing interpretation at the historic Blacksmith shop facility. You will also assist with administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, drafting documents, and answering phones, while also greeting and assisting visitors and callers. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to learn about campground office operations, aiding in visitor inquiries and check-ins, and gain exposure to the maintenance of park facilities, including groundskeeping, trail servicing, and the removal of invasive plant species. Throughout your internship, you may also have the chance to familiarize yourself with the tools and equipment used in maintaining a recreational facility, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of park management and operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time Internship Duration of Internship: 5/1/24 - 8/30/24 Typical work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with 30-minute lunch. Some evenings; work required most weekends with weekdays off (Monday/Tuesday, Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday) Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors: Environmental Education (or similar) Recreation and Park Management History An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable. Freshman year completed. Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

Additional Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
