As part of Commerce + Ecosystem (C+E) within Cloud + Artificial Intelligence (C+AI), we are focused on enabling and optimizing the end-to-end customer journey for all Microsoft products, services, and channels. Our team is the C+E Studio – we are User Experience professionals (UXers) at our core, care deeply about our customers and each other, and love connecting the dots that cut across business siloes, tools and processes so we can build better experiences.

That’s where you come in: we’re searching for a Principal User Experience (UX) Researcher to join us in reimagining and designing end-to-end commerce and ecosystem experiences. We are looking for an experienced Principal UX researcher who can understand complex problem spaces, conceptualize creative solutions across boundaries, be at the forefront of our generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) customer experiences, and articulate a clear point-of-view to create positive change at scale. Responsibilities

  • Proactively design and executes a cohesive and focused research program for critical area(s), establishing Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) and experience outcomes as a guidepost for the team to strive towards.

  • Balance both agile and strategic research methods on a daily basis to influence product direction, and overall user experience.

  • Leverage qualitative and quantitative data to synthesize and distill data across the division or the company into actionable insights

  • Produce impactful artifacts generated from research findings which are visually rich and bring clarity to the space being studied. 

  • Partner with Design, Product Management and Engineering to deliver experiences that are simple, emotionally rewarding and that make employees, customers and partner’s lives better.

  • Understand industry trends and connect with other Microsoft product teams to share and leverage insights across the company.

  • Inspire and mentor both internal and external Designers & Researchers

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 8+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 6+ years User Experience Research experience

  • OR Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 5+ year(s) User Experience Research experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of experience performing research in Design Sprints, Agile Development models and running large projects/programs.

  • Analytical and synthesis skills (both qualitative and quantitative) with an ability to turn research results into product insights.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years relevant domain experience within technology sector.

  • 8+ years experience in research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross functionally with other teams (Engineering, Design, Product Management & Marketing)

  • Well established portfolio of research techniques from ethnography, field studies, interviews, usability studies, concept validation, user journey mapping, surveys, scorecards and competitive analysis.
