The Microsoft Office India team is looking for a few high caliber and highly motivated Principal Software Engineering Managers to lead the planning, design, implementation and shipping of a few critical components for a strategic project for Office business.

The Microsoft Office India team is building a set of next generation experiences for Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) on Android and iOS. In addition the team is focused on expanding the current Visio business from half a billion dollar in revenue to one billion in five years. Besides, the team is engaged in creating a new product line for the emerging markets for humans who use only mobile devices or do most of their work while being mobile. Here your work has the potential to reach billions of users worldwide and to impact Microsoft business and its stakeholders. Already Office for Android apps have more than 100+ Million downloads since its launch in last 6 months.

Now we’re looking for fearless and innovative technical leaders who are passionate about increasing Office's daily and monthly usage and retention to join us and drive us to the next level of business success by getting the apps that matter to people at work, at school and at home integrated with our platform, both on the cloud and on mobile. Our engineering team tackles a wide variety of problems, from networking to advanced graphics handling to leading edge UI design to insight mining from telemetry to creating scalable and highly available services in Azure. The team today is agile, shipping daily or monthly, eager to learn, and willing to try new ways of working.

Responsibilities

The Senior SWE will be expected to contribute to a feature area and be responsible for the architecture and performance and quality of that area. He is expected to take such a feature area from ideation to successful roll out to millions of users. He will be able to defend the architectural trade off decision. He should be able to act as a Project lead for such an area and can manage the schedule and dependencies with help. He acts as a code reviewer of that area and mentors the SWEs for right practices. He must be self-driven, proactive, results-oriented and self-critical. The candidate can expect to build a wide range of skills and experiences in this role. The candidate should have experience in all phases of the development cycle, preferably on large-scale commercial products including collaborating across the groups and cross discipline with Design, PM and our partner teams. He is expected to contribute to improve efficiency of tools.

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent degree

• 8+ years of software development experience with C, C++ or Java

• Ability to quickly pick up existing concepts and employ new techniques and strong problem solving

• Independently can handle design and implementation of feature areas of right complexity

• Strong customer focus and passion for doing the right thing for the customer

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• Any exposure to Office technology, iOS / Android / Azure Services is desirable
