The Software Engineer in Test, based at Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center in Hyderabad will focus on designing, implementing and supporting medical device software for the HUGO surgical robotic system. The software controls hardware devices, such as robotic arms and actuators. The software also interacts with sensors, GPIO devices and other physical hardware, communicates with microcontrollers and with other networked devices through Ethernet-based middleware, fieldbus technology, and monitors/responds to diverse conditions.

A Day in the Life

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Read, analyze, understand product requirements and support requirements reviews.

· Design, implement and execute tests using C++ as well as Manual test development process for the verification of product software.

· Learn and understand software standards for Medical devices, ex. IEC62304.

· Support test infrastructure set up and test tool development; such as test tools, stubs, Hardware/Firmware simulators and emulators.

· Establish and maintain traceability from software requirements to verification test design and implementation.

· Work under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Must Have

Job Respobsibilities

· Experience in C++ programming language for embedded real-time applications.

· Experience on both white box, black box testing and regression.

· Experience in hardware/software interfacing and software design issues.

· Experience in test automation preferably using Python.

· Experience with software unit testing (preferably using GTest) and continuous integration implementations.

· Participate in System design, coordination with teams and internal product management.

· Know-how of field-bus technology (EtherCAT preferred) and standard embedded communication protocols (DDS, SPI, I2C, AXI, UART, etc.)

· Ability to work on cross-functional project teams comprised of software verification and development engineers, system engineers, human factor engineers and quality engineers.

· Ability to test, analyze, and solve technical problems.

· Strong written and verbal communication.

Must Have

Minimum Qualification

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

· 4 to 12 years’ experience in Embedded Software development with at least four years’ experience in the medical device or regulated industry.

Principal Working Relationship

· Reports to the Engineering Manager

· The Software Engineer frequently interacts with Tech Lead, other developers, V&V engineers, internal partners and stakeholders concerning estimations, test design, implementation or requirement clarifications, works closely with global sites.

Nice to Haves

· Software design/test experience working in a regulated industry.

· Experience with software version control tools.

· Quality focus, willingness to learn, versatility and adaptability.
