General Purpose

The City of Idaho Falls and The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is currently recruiting for the position of Zoo Facilities

Services Supervisor. In this position you will, under general supervision, perform and lead a crew in semi-skilled

construction, repair and grounds maintenance duties on various City buildings, facilities and fixtures, including electrical,

plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, landscape and related mechanical tasks.

Works under general supervision of the Zoo Executive Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Provides close supervision to regular, seasonal and temporary personnel, zoo volunteers, community services, work detail

and other volunteers.

Essential Functions

Oversees day-to-day facilities planning and environmental maintenance operations and projects; oversees in-house zoo

construction projects, interacts as necessary with city departments, contractors and architect in completing repair,

maintenance, and new construction. Schedules building maintenance, contractors and/or in-house labors to complete

repairs. Plans, orders and maintains materials used in construction projects in the zoo; develops project specifications, plan

material needs, prepares purchase orders. Planning, organizing and supervising the work of staff engaged in construction

projects, repair, and maintenance work on Zoo buildings, structures and facilities. Will oversee all day to day operation and

projects.

Locates problems and performs necessary repairs on malfunctioning equipment, fixtures, buildings and facilities; may

perform troubleshooting and analysis of malfunctions using various technical and computerized testing and calibration

equipment as needed to assure safe and efficient operations.

Cleans and maintains zoo buildings including public restrooms, offices and equipment and tool storage areas. Evaluates

and repairs Zoo facilities and informs zoo management of repairs needed, whether they are extensive or minor. Perform

repairs and construction by utilizing a variety of hand and power tools to ensure the safety of the animals, employees,

volunteers and the public.

Maintains lawns, flowerbeds and gardens. Prunes shrubs and trees. Applies fertilizers and pesticides as necessary. Plans

and designs new sprinkler systems and animal exhibit watering features. Maintains irrigation systems including water filters

and pumps.

Coordinate Zoo building preventive maintenance program and schedules; assist with maintaining work records/work orders

including schedules, receipts, safety reports and maintenance logs. Maintains appropriate records including but not limited

to repair of buildings, scheduling of preventative maintenance of building HVAC systems, scheduling of maintenance for

vehicles and equipment, scheduling of fertilizer application. Prepares regular written status reports as to the condition of

various facilities.

Oversees maintenance safety practices; assures compliance with safety guidelines by maintenance personnel, Zoo

employees and general patrons of the Zoo facilities.

Instructs in processes and procedures; reviews performances to assure quality work, and makes recommendations related

to job hiring, retention and re-hiring of regular seasonal and temporary personnel. Select, trains zoo personnel and

volunteers in the safe and proper use of machinery, tools, equ ipment and chemicals used throughout the zoo. Assures that

all chemicals are stored properly. Maintains and updates as necessary MSDS reference books. Assures that all chemicals

are stored properly. Provide, coordinate and/or train zoo personnel and volunteers updates as necessary on MSDS

reference books, Haz-mat MSDS. Oversees periodic safety meetings.

Receives work orders for the various Zoo facilities, ensures repairs are made in timely manner, coordinates work orders,

conducts building inspections to verify operation standards, checks and maintains service schedules consistent with

manufacturer specifications.
