Job Description:

The Data Architect establishes a vision and strategy for data management across the enterprise. The architect is responsible for the high-level design, overseeing the implementations, and manages the data architecture along with establishing guiding principles and roadmaps for delivery of the strategy. The role is responsible for technology selection, adaptable governance, and creation of high-level architecture designs that drive realization of strategic business outcomes. The role is critical for establishing the foundational architecture for data management and a modern data platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes the enterprise vision and defines data strategy; oversees execution of strategic plans for data integration, data quality & data delivery in a timely, secure, and repeatable manner that supports business objectives and outcomes.

  • Creation and active management/oversight of a five-year roadmap & business plan that delivers upon the data strategy including analytics, data engineering and data platforms which supports the business vision, strategy & objectives.

  • Actively lead the identification of opportunities and/or gaps that exist between current state and the three-to-five-year target architecture and establish plans, including level of effort, cost, duration, and risks to closing the gaps and/or capitalizing on the opportunities identified.

  • Chair and lead the data and analytics cross-functional Center of Excellence (COE).

  • Establish and maintain an adaptable data governance framework that addresses policy, access, privacy, security, availability, lineage, and quality of data assets.

  • Creation and maintenance of enterprise data models in the context of business processes to facilitate effective information systems.

  • Responsible for overall design of databases, data warehouses, data lakes, ETL, data integration, etc.

  • Establish metadata management that describes technical, business & operation aspects of data.

  • Develop and maintain the contextual/conceptual level current state and target state architectures.

  • Participate in the definition of an annualized portfolio of projects that address both long-term and near-term needs in alignment with the strategy and roadmaps.

  • Provide governance as an active member of the Architecture Review Board

  • Innovation & Technology trend tracking along with evaluations & recommendations of emerging technologies.

  • Work directly with business analysts, data scientists and IT teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.

  • Actively manage the practice of data management leveraging best practices, industry frameworks and establishment of guiding principles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business or an Engineering discipline required

  • Master’s Degree in a Science, Engineering, or Technology field preferred

  • Certified Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of data systems and platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience in defining, establishing, and communicating; at all levels, a data strategy that enables enterprise objectives.

  • Experience leading projects delivering modern data architectures such as cloud services, real-time data flows and modern data warehouses/data lakes.

  • Demonstrated ability to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements and utilize the requirements to develop targeted architectures.

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound architecture decisions that are rooted in industry standards and leverage accepted architecture standards and practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and lead virtual teams that work in a collaborative manner.

  • Strong leadership skills with exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.

  • Demonstrated ability to support in-flight projects with consultative guidance to staff, consultants, and external partners.

  • Demonstrated experience with SQL and Microsoft Azure services is critical.

  • Experience with various other data related technologies, such as Databricks, Snowflake, SAP HANA, Power BI, Power Platform, Apache Spark, Python, and Apache Hive.
