12 week assignments

EPOD (East POD) Locations: Dallas, Heart & Spine, Denton, Frisco, Las Colinas, Lewisville, McKinney, Plano

Rate: $53/Base Rate

4 12 hour Shifts/Pay Period

2 On-Call per 4-Week Schedule

2 Weekend Shifts per 4-week Schedule Period

Holidays: 2 Major and 1 Minor

Major Holidays—Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day

Minor—Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Valentine’s Day, Halloween

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant (CSTFA) provides safe care during the perioperative phase and maintains a high level of communication, collaboration, and interaction with physicians and other health team members. Will perform CSFA interventions under the direction and supervision of the operating surgeon in accordance with the National Board of Surgical Technology (NBSTSA) and state scope of practice requirements consistent with the mission of the hospital.

What You Will Do In This Role:

  • You will maintain a safe and therapeutic OR and pre-surgical area environment.

  • You will perform necessary technical skills in a scrub role requiring aseptic technique as delineated through standards of Operating Room care.

  • You will assist the surgeon by providing retraction and aiding exposure of the operative site.

  • You will anticipate the moves of the surgeon and assists in the safe and efficient completion of the surgical procedure.

  • You will facilitate hemostasis of the surgical site by performing suction, irrigation and sponging the operative site during a surgical procedure.

  • You will assist with skin or external suturing and stapling.

  • You will assist with securing drainage systems and dressings.

  • You will delegate authority to provide local infiltration or the topical application of a local anesthetic at the operation site.

  • You will maintain and enhance skills through consultation with interdisciplinary team members, participation in planning activities, and attendance at in service and continuing education programs.

  • You will provide patient care and/or department service in a safe, competent, and efficient manner as determined by outcomes, quality monitors, and other internal and external processes. Measures of effectiveness as observed by manager and others and review of documentation.

  • You will promote a supportive OR environment.

  • You will provide emotional support for patients and families based on the assessments of their coping skills.

  • You will support the mission, vision and values of the organization.

  • You will attend staff meetings, in-services, and facility town hall meetings.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • High School Graduate / GED

  • Graduate of an accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist

  • Completed coursework in First Assistant including didactic and preceptor training

  • Current certification with the National Board of Surgical Technology (NBSTSA) as a dual certified CSFA (FA +CST) or an FA certification from NBSTSA and a CST certification from an accredited certifying entity
