This is a full performance engineering position requiring knowledge and experience in a wide range of professional design and engineering duties in the water and sewer treatment, distribution and collection system(s) field. The work is performed in accordance with established engineering principles with flexibility in choosing methods, materials, and value engineering. The incumbent is given general direction in the planning and preparation of sanitary sewer collection and water distribution system replacement projects in an existing infrastructure consisting of 84 miles and 103 miles of respective pipeline. Water system hydraulic studies and investigations, process and quality control in water and wastewater treatment system(s), building construction, and the overall coordination and management of construction efforts in a day to day water & sewer operation and maintenance organization are typical. Frequent interaction with City of Ithaca boards, subcommittees, municipal officials, and the public are required. The Civil Engineer position provides engineering support to the entire Water & Sewer Division. The Division operates and maintains the City’s water and sewer infrastructure with a staff of operators, technicians, and several light and heavy construction crews. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management. and one (1) year of full-time paid experience, or its part-time paid equivalent, performing engineering design, specification writing, inspections or surveys; orPossession of an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Science or a closely related field with a focus on civil or construction technology and three (3) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time paid equivalent, performing engineering design, specification writing, inspections or surveys; orAn equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.Note: College degrees must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education and/or U.S. Secretary of Education. If an applicant’s degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
