This is a strategic leadership position to serve as a Discipline Leader (DL) for Civil Works Projects in our Water Resources Infrastructure & Resiliency Community of Practice. In this position you will provide technical and quality oversight to civil design projects and teams of subject matter experts (SMEs) throughout the US. Projects may include design of large civil works projects (e.g., reservoirs, levees, gates, control structures,), ecosystem restoration and environmental remediation, coastal resiliency systems (backflow preventers and flood barriers), stormwater and green infrastructure, and site civil work associated with water treatment, transportation, and water reclamation facilities.

As a strategic member of this team, you will have direct access to experts skilled in the fields of civil engineering, modeling. geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and other SMEs to support the design of Civil Works projects. Additionally, you will work with Practice Leaders (PLs), other Discipline Leaders and engineering and construction leaders across the organization and will be empowered to deliver innovative solutions while interacting effectively with clients, company management, administrators, project engineers, and vendors.

Main responsibilities include:

1.\tPerforms and coordinates with designated SMEs for quality checking of designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Familiarity with US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and State agency design standards are a plus.

2.\tProvides guidance and coordinates with SMEs on the delivery of civil works projects. This includes coordination with regional team leaders (RTLs) on project staffing needs.

3.\tCollaborates with the Water Resources Infrastructure & Resiliency Practice Leader and sales staff to support proposals in response to requests for Proposals (RFPs). Reviews draft proposals as part of ta review tam for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations, and best practices. Meets with current and potential future clients as needed to review their current and future design needs.

4.\tAttends and presents at conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the technical luminescence and visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with PLs, DLs, and sales staff.

5.\tProvides technical guidance and training to senior, mid-level and junior staff as needed. Mentors staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm. Supervises the work of engineers on project work and delegates as necessary to SMEs.

6.\tAlternative delivery experience such as progressive design build is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Professional engineering (PE) license.

15 years of related experience.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities:

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.

Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design.

Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

Additional Compensation:

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
