Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (PA) / Overview

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

UHS is seeking an experienced physician assistant (PA) to join our growing cardiothoracic surgery service line.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate patient care. Counsel patients about concerns under the direction of the supervising physician(s).

  • Round on patients admitted to the hospital; review care plans with nursing staff as established by our physicians.

  • Assist in the operating room. Vein Harvest experience required.

  • Perform physical assessments on patients and complete patient histories.

  • Complete discharge summaries.

  • Order medications, treatments, labs, etc.

  • Be available for call about patient conditions according to the pre-established schedule. Includes holiday responsibilities.

  • Other duties as determined by the supervising physician(s).

Education and Skills Required:

  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

  • Current licensure with the state of New York as a physician assistant (PA).

  • Completion of an accredited PA program.

  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant related field

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

    Focused, collaborative environment providing state-of-the-art Cardiothoracic Surgery services including:

    VA and VV ECMO, IABP and Impella VADS

    Growing TAVR and Minimally Invasive Valve Program

    On pump, Off Pump, Hybrid and MICS CABG program

    Comprehensive Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Foregut Surgery Program
