Telephone Operator, Wilson Hospital
United Health Services is seeking a Telephone Operator to join our Wilson Medical Center team in Johnson City, NY. This is a benefits-eligible position.
Shift: Varies Hours per week: 40 Salary range: $16.50-$22.28, depending on experience
Telephone Operator Position Overview
Switchboard Operators are professional tele-communicators, functioning as a central point of communication within UHS facilities. Receives emergency response calls and initiates proper notification of emergency codes. Assists callers, visitors, physicians, funeral home directors, and hospital personnel. Acts as answering service for areas as assigned.
UHS Binghamton General Hospital holds 220 beds and provides general medical clinic services such as surgical, rehabilitative, and emergency care to the people of greater Binghamton. It offers 24-hour emergency care and operates such major regional programs as orthopedic surgery, bariatric care, wound care, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, chemical dependency treatment service, behavioral health program, sleep center and gastroenterology laboratory at our medical clinic.
Telephone Operator Responsibilities and Expectations
? Responds to requests for paging of hospital personnel and physicians using overhead paging, digital pager, or cell phone.
? Demonstrates responsibility for emergency codes, alarms, phone, and frequent testing of alarm and emergency systems.
? Contacts on-call hospital personnel as requested by various departments.
? Contacts clergy as requested by various departments.
? Maintains control of hospital keys.
? Maintains control of hospital safe.
? Facilitates telephone repair and distributes new phones.
? Maintains and tracks pagers for hospital personnel.
? Functions as back-up information desk during off hours.
? Functions as base station for hospital security.
? Facilitates release of deceased.
Position Qualifications
Minimum:
? High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
? Two years previous switchboard experience.
