PND Engineers, Inc. CAD/Inspection/Maintenance Technican in Juneau, Alaska
PND Engineers, Inc., is seeking a multifaceted computer-aided design and drafting, maintenance, and inspection technician to join our thriving Juneau, Alaska, civil/structural engineering office. Drafting/Design (40%):
- Prepare clear, accurate and complete engineering drawings using practical design knowledge.
- Develop detailed design elements using information from various sources which may include site studies, vendor drawings, catalog data, engineering sketches, reference drawings and input from other disciplines.
- Review and check design drawings and vendor shop drawings.
- Participate in design coordination with engineers and other disciplines in the development of complete drawing packages.
Construction Inspection/Fieldwork (40%)
- Inspect and observe heavy civil construction work under direction of a senior engineer or project manager.
- Occasionally assist survey crews with topographic and bathymetric data collection.
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.
- Field testing and inspection duties related to soil, concrete, structural steel, welding, etc.
- Prepare and submit clear, concise, and legible daily reports of observations and test results.
- Communicate daily and as needed with supervisors, coworkers, clients, contractors, owners, and engineering staff.
- Perform standard tests and collect data.
- Perform routine calculations and measurements.
- Maintain company or leased vehicles and field equipment in good working order.
- Participate in pre-job safety planning and daily toolbox safety meetings as required.
Expediting/Maintenance (20%):
- Deliver and pick up documents, packages, supplies, field samples, and sometimes larger equipment in the Juneau area within established deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge of current in-state air cargo and shipping methods and overnight delivery services frequently used by the organization.
- Prepare and process courier deliveries or air cargo shipments. Coordinates with designated PND personnel on handling hazardous materials in accordance with federal regulations.
- Sign for deliveries when necessary and notify recipients.
- Keep track of and submit in a timely manner all receipts packing slips, delivery tickets, or other documentation.
- Ensure regular preventative maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups, tire changeovers) on company vehicles is accomplished within prescribed schedules.
- Ensure readiness of PND vehicles by regularly fueling and washing, and routinely inspecting.
- Ensure regular preventative maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups, flushing) on the company skiff and trailer is accomplished within prescribed schedules.
- Assist in preparing company vehicles and skiff for upcoming work and incoming crews.
- Coordinate and contract with repair shops as needed for vehicle and skiff repairs and routine maintenance.
- Assure building interior and exterior are well maintained and are safe, neat, clean, sanitary, and attractive.
- Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, furniture and lighting maintenance and other building maintenance duties as skills and availability permit. Seek outside contractors when needed, with Office Coordinator or designees guidance and approval.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to assume roles and responsibilities on a proactive basis.
- Understand the development and markup of plan sets for civil and public works projects (site development, building structural, water and wastewater treatment process, roadways, harbors, and marine/waterfront infrastructure.)
- Able to read, use, and develop plan and profile drawings.
- Understands and able to work with and in 3D drawings and models.
- Ability to understand and follow CAD standards, procedures, and client requirements.
- Experience with the current version of AutoCAD.
- Ability to gain proficiency in Civil3D, Revit, and other engineering design applications.
- Experience in Bluebeam REVU and Microsoft Office applications.
- Able to consistently project a professional image and teamwork when interacting with clients, co-workers, vendors, and prospective clients.
- Ability to safely operate typical lawn and grounds maintenance machinery (lawn mower, snow blower, etc.) and basic hand tools and power tools.
- Some experience with construction skilled trades, such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, welding, or geotechnical investigations/soils testing. Two-plus years of practical experience preferred.
- Solid mathematical skills and attention to detail.
- Depending on assignment/location, drug and alcohol testing may be required; additional company-paid site-specific safety training classes may be required.
- Ability to work occasional overtime as needed.
- Ability to work for several days or weeks at a time away from home in remote locations.
- Other technical training and certifications, including WAQTC, ICC, ACI, or CAD are a plus.
- Ability to work safely in the outdoors, in all weather and temperature conditions, and to lift carry up to 50 lbs. over uneven terrain.
