Office of Human Resources Management Human Resources Assistant in Kansas City, Missouri

Summary As a Human Resources Assistant, you will assist with clerical or technical tasks in support of the Benefits and Retirement Center. Location of position: General Services Administration, Office of Human Resources Management, Kansas City, MO We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled through this announcement in this or other GSA organizations within the same commuting area. Responsibilities As a Human Resources Assistant, you will perform the following duties: Explain the features of employee benefit programs, and assist employees in completing necessary forms to start, change, or cancel coverage. Provide information and appropriate forms for inquiries related to a variety of human resources activities and operations. Process applications and forms for employee benefits transactions. Provide basic HR guidance to customers on benefits, and civilian and military deposits. Assist HR Specialists in finalizing retirement applications. Process employee transactions for assigned organizations using HR Links automated human resource system in accordance with policies and procedures outlined in the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Guide to Processing Personnel Actions. Upload all health benefits forms to employee’s electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF). Use time management skills to meet the needed work schedule demands as situations warrant. Work independently and perform a variety of human resources support tasks for recurring or complex work assignments. Answer and respond to emails daily that arrive in the benefits inbox and send to proper HR Specialist. Prepare correspondence/reports for final review by higher-graded HR Specialists. This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home). Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service. Serve a one year probationary period, if required. Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 2 investigation level). Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee. We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience assisting with clerical or technical tasks in support of benefits functions. Experience must include: providing information and guidance on completing appropriate forms; directing inquiries or routing correspondence to the appropriate office or individual; editing and creating office documents and correspondence using various office automation software; and performing administrative functions such as scanning documents, maintaining files, and responding to emails. OR EDUCATION: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of post high school education beyond the second year and experience which combined meet the qualification requirements of this position.
