UNIVERSITY OF NEB KEARNEY Grounds Manager in Kearney, Nebraska

Under the direction of the Facilities Management and Planning Director, the Grounds Manager is responsible for the cleanliness, appearance and working environment of over 220 acres of campus grounds. This position provides management of grounds supervisors and staff, which includes hiring, training, evaluation, and retention issues. Provide leadership to subordinates in planning, establishing and maintaining the highest achievable grounds programs commensurate with the resources made available. Manage all grounds planning and resources; Human Resources: Responsible for hiring, training, retaining staff, motivating subordinates; delegation of duties; effective use of human resources,EEOand AA. Fiscal management: Operate within authorized budget; evaluate fiscal needs, establishing priority spending, creating effective cost controls; generally managing the fiscal resources in a prudent manner. Plans, develops, prioritizes, and manages efficient, and economical grounds maintenance tasks in accord with the seasonal calendar, the University calendar, and with current weather conditions to assure that ascertained levels of appearance, plant health, cleanliness, and public safety are attained on a daily basis. Survey sites and assist in actual project layout. Provide specific plant care, shrubs and trees, to include arbor work and soil improvement. Mow grass areas. Maintain flower beds. Propagate plants. Trim tree branches. Monitor details of a project area and complete work assignments on projects. Operate heavy and light landscape equipment. Remove snow and ice. Apply sand, salt, and ice melt. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years experience in landscape maintenance or commercial landscape and three years supervisory experience. Valid Nebraska drivers license (within 6 months of hire). Working knowledge of equipment and job functions of a landscaping and grounds operation. Good oral, writing and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ten years experience in landscape maintenance or commercial landscape and five years supervisory experience.
