Youth Apprentice, Machinist

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite at Kohler, WI

Hourly Pay Rate: $15.00

Shift: 1st Flexible

Hours: Part-Time - 15-35 hrs. per week.

Opportunity

Perform a wide variety of assignments in the General Tooling departments using a broad family of machinery and tools.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Operate a wide variety of tools and equipment of the machinist trade, manual & CNC, mills, drills, lathes, bore bars, saws, hand tools, chain hoist, hydraulic jacks and cranes, levels, grinders, etc. Be capable of reading, interpreting and using blueprints, drawings, sketches, measurements and work orders.

  • Machine to proper dimensions and to meet general test requirements.

  • Work from verbal instructions, drawings, job layouts, and sketches.

Miscellaneous: (All Functions):

  • Maintain work area: e.g., clean-up and keep materials and equipment in clean working condition, clean as required and at the end of each shift.

  • Assist co-workers as required.

  • Report any equipment abnormalities.

  • Take initiative to address all process and equipment malfunctions and problems.

Additional Functions and Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of and follow all safety regulations in effect.

  • Engage in learning activity to upgrade skill sets, both interpersonal and technical.

  • Acknowledge responsibility to the global community (cultural, economic, environmental, and political)

  • Practice environmental sensitivity in profession – sustainability.

  • Perform all duties as assigned by mentor, and or supervision.

Interaction

  • Participate as member of team to accomplish goals. Communicate; resolve conflicts at lowest possible level.

  • Cooperate, collaborate, and effectively utilize cross-functional resources.

  • Interact with other teams to accomplish goals.

  • Communicate, provide feedback, and use collaborative decision-making.

  • Provide operational information to upper management. Receive feedback from upper management and collaborate to achieve goals.

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Applies to all Youth Apprentices

  • Required to take technical skills test, to evaluate current knowledge of machining.

Specific Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited high school technical education program with an emphasis in machining, working towards graduation.

Working Conditions

  • Heavy industrial environment, including, but not limited to exposure to extreme heat and cold, dust, dirt, coolants, oils, noise, heights and confined spaces.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, lifting, and pushing weights of up to 40 pounds or more.
