Cargill CFB SEA Trading Trainee in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Job Purpose and Impact

Purpose of this 24 months program is to fast-track a fresh trading/merchandising talent who is commercially inclined for our Cargill Food & Bio trading business. The program entails rotation and mentorship focused on building relevant skills, knowledge and cultural awareness to be successful in the role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Developing short-term and long-term trading strategies, as well as identifying potential opportunities in both derivatives, cash paper and physical markets.

  • Identify and connect physical arbitrage opportunities between geographies, product and tenure via forward view of macro, flow change between markets and positioning.

  • Negotiate for buy and sell physical cargo during arbitrage opening/closing by adopting a holistic view of factors driving the spot and forward market and prices.

  • Support building of physical liquidity and market share in assigned markets via business development efforts and participation in trade flows within measured risk vs reward assessment.

  • Develop market knowledge through constant dialogue and close communication with industry players, and customers at multiple levels so as to enhance the overall customer experience.

  • Collaborate with transportation and logistics, quality assurance, customer managers and credit manager to ensure efficient execution and resolve routine problems.

  • Help plan purchases and transportation to maximize profitable use of stock and storage facilities.

  • Enter most routine data and run specialty reports from our contract management databases and systems.

  • Research and analyze various freight opportunities in the marketplace to maximize margin.

  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Early career professionals with no more than 2 years’ work experience in commodities/financial markets, private equity, hedge funds are welcome to apply.

  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical facility with commercial acumen to provide solutions to business challenges.

  • Demonstrates strong interest in commodity/financial markets.

  • Commercially-minded, strong system thinker and ability to connect the dots.

  • Self-starter, entrepreneurial, innovative inclinations.

  • Able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
