PURPOSE OF JOB:

Oversee the day-to-day activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests to diagnose various animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. Supervises staff, assigns work and evaluates results.

Shift: 9:30am - 6pm or when finished. Monday - Friday

Pay-rate $31.63 Hourly

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise day-to-day activities in the laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests to diagnose various animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.

  • Resolve escalated issues.

  • Leads work activities of the lab planning and organizing work, resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.

  • Communicate with other laboratory supervisors and managers to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources.

  • Coordinate with internal personnel, others as needed to resolve issues and maintain ongoing functionality.

  • Train on all areas to include Specimen Processing, Chemistry, Hematology, UA and Coag according to all SOP’s.

  • Read UA slides

  • Train on startup, daily use and end of day functions of analyzers.

  • Train on daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.

  • Prepare the sendout test and package for the main lab.

  • Review of supplies and Ordering in IOS.

  • Review of QC Protocols and monitor Antech University.

  • Where applicable, provide feedback regarding staff performance to RVP or Regional Lab Manager.

  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a clinical laboratory, or combination of education and work experience as a Vet Tech.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Laboratory skills and experience

  • General science background

  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently

  • Organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill

  • Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours

  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers

  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch

  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person

  • Ability to communicate verbally on the phone and in person

  • Fluency in the English language

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Laboratory environment with potential biohazards present

  • Use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards
