Responsibilities

Collect and receive specimens for processing in the lab following the policies and procedures of the department, as well as, other duties assigned by Lab Director or other lab leadership. Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of Common Spirit Health.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret laboratory labels for blood collection

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection in the clinic, hospital and at nursing home settings on patients of all ages. Adhering to patient identification and labeling procedures.

  • Collect blood cultures aseptically

  • Utilize all collection devices including syringes, vacutainers, and needles

  • Answer telephones, greet patients/visitors, transcribe provider’s orders, electronic data entry, and assist with documentation.

  • Communicate with providers, and nurses regarding testing requirements and results

  • Assists with cleaning, stocking, and maintenance of department equipment and supplies

  • Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies.

  • Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
