Position Overview

Navistar's Brake Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer, Chassis Brake Design role. This design engineer position is in the Brake Engineering department within the Chassis Engineering group.

Brakes Engineering within Chassis Engineering is accountable for all design development and ownership across all vehicle platforms of brakes systems including Foundation brakes, Brake controls and actuation, Air brake charging and pneumatics, Hydraulic brakes, and Wheel ends.

Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes work through independent contributions, typically receiving general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments, and an adequate level of guidance and direction

  • Exercises judgement within defined, standard practices/procedures to determine appropriate action

  • Requires moderate subject area knowledge and decision-making skills

  • Follows the processes, problem solving and implementing solutions to the most engineering issues

  • Refers problems that cannot be resolved to the next level

  • Builds productive internal and external working relationships

  • May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members

  • Serves as a central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the product/system move from concept to production and distribution

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

OR

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and will obtain degree prior to first day of employment

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Experience in truck and/or automotive design and development process

  • Experience in design release process

  • Experience in any 3D CAD Modeling software is a plus

  • Structural design experience designing and developing parts for light/heavy commercial vehicle chassis

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, stamping, casting

  • Experience in problem solving tools such as 8D, Six-sigma, Lean

  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills

  • Experience with formal presentations

  • Creation and execution of dFMEAs, DRDs and DVPs

  • Reviews designs for completeness and accuracy

  • MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project

  • Experience in Mechatronics is plus
