The Human Centered Design Lead - Automotive / Transportation will play a key role in executing various projects that generate market share. They will exercise their human-centered design skills to satisfy un-met customer needs by leading the development of cutting-edge technologies and features to be introduced to the trucking industry. Their work will play a key role in advancing Navistar’s innovative culture.

They are expected to demonstrate experience with the human-centered design process/ tools and the ability to inspire action while leading cross functional teams. They must also rely on technical knowledge to guide projects to approval and implementation. They are open to new experiences and ways of working and lastly are comfortable with ambiguity & challenging norms.

This role comes with a lot of freedom to add value to Navistar in areas that align with the innovator’s expertise. Exercise out of box thinking in a very dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Invent and Innovate Navistar’s next generation of products and features while generating patents on a regular basis

  • Engage your curiosity to find unexplored opportunities you are passionate about and provide added value to Navistar

  • Provide technical expertise to develop patentable ideas for industry leading technologies

  • Leads the creation, evaluation, and development of new solutions to meet prioritized innovation spaces

  • Apply the human-centered design process to meet un-met customer needs

  • Facilitate data gathering events, rapid prototyping, customer interviews, customer empathy/ immersion, ideation sessions, data synthesis, & iteration cycles

  • Organize, document, and maintain records of key findings from hosted events

  • Teach various innovation techniques and tools

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Design or Industrial Design

  • At least 12 years of industrial design experience

  • 2 years of lead experience

OR

  • Master's degree in Transportation Design or Industrial Design

  • At least 8 years of industrial design experience

  • 2 years of lead experience

OR

  • At least 14 years of industrial design experience

  • 2 years of lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
