Position Overview

Our ePowertrain Team is growing and we have a great opportunity for HV Battery ESS (Energy Storage System) Modeling Engineer.

The engineer in this position will lead rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) modeling efforts, including the creation, integration, maintenance, execution, improvement, and validation of HV Battery models.

This is a hybrid position based in our Rochester Hills, MI, Lisle, IL or San Antonio, TX locations.

Responsibilities

  • Development of cell-to-system electrical (and possibly physics & thermal) multi-parameter models and tools to assess RESS performance and predict behavior response, including but not limited to: SOC, SOP, SOH, voltage, current, and heat-rejection

  • Scale models from cell to module to pack and vis-versa

  • Simulate representative vehicle drive cycles, charging, and book-end conditions

  • Validate HV battery models using cell and/or battery pack level characterization test data and vehicle meta-data. Calibrate and fine-tune RESS models and simulations to increase accuracy and confidence.

  • Assess fidelity of supplier-provided models for ease-of integration, correlation, confidence, and accuracy. Work with supplier to correct model issues and implement improvements based on all available data & feedback.

  • Work with the performance engineering team to integrate RESS models with propulsion and vehicle models

  • Collaborate with cell engineering team on design of experiments to capture cell parameter data required for modeling efforts

  • Collaborate with our TRATON partners and the OnCommand Connection group on battery analytics, including: RESS remote diagnostics, data acquisition, prognostics, and life estimation

  • Utilize vehicle meta-data to optimize DoE and the number of cell, pack, and vehicle test-cases, by generating representative synthetic cycles

  • Develop tools to optimize energy, power, and thermal energy flow using systems engineering principles

  • Develop excel or script-based tools for static computation of ESS power, energy vs SOC and Temperature

  • Develop tools and/or scripts to pre and post-process vehicle data as required

  • Provide input and feedback on ESS design requirements – including requirements for cell throughput, power, and energy

  • Work with our TRATON partners to optimize modeling and simulation processes, tools, and strategies

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • At least 5 years of experience in product design/development
