Navistar, Inc. Senior Engineering Manager - HMI & Ergonomics in Lisle, Illinois

Position Overview

Navistar’s Vehicle Engineering and Integration Team has an opening for an Engineering Manager Sr - HMI & Ergonomics. This role will be managing a team of engineers and designers supporting development for all Navistar vehicles ranging from school buses to line-haul tractors.

We are looking for a candidate who is excited to take a leadership role and has a background in Human Machine Interface and/or Ergonomics in the automotive industry. You will manage a team supporting several simultaneous projects and have accountability to lead, direct, and guide the implementation of plans which assure that Navistar’ products meet or exceed program targets.

This position will be located at Navistar’s headquarters in Lisle, Illinois. Occasional support may also be required at Navistar’s test and production facilities, as well as occasional onsite support at suppliers and customers.

Navistar is a part of TRATON SE, a global champion of the truck and transport services industry. You will also collaborate with Ergonomics & HMI professionals from other TRATON brands including MAN and Scania.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management of members of HMI and Ergonomics teams, including personnel and technical leadership

  • Lead the team in collaborating with Leadership, Product Planning, Industrial Design, Engineering, and Program Management to develop Ergonomics & HMI project plans, budgets, and solutions

  • Ensure robust, high-quality deliverables to achieve project targets for capability/performance and market position

  • Responsible for leading the processes, problem solving, and implementing solutions to complex and high-risk issues

  • Identify, develop, and apply appropriate Ergonomics & HMI criteria, tools, methodologies, and processes to truck and bus products throughout the product development process

  • Support planning and management of customer clinics and user evaluations

  • Oversee and guide benchmarking industry and non-industry user interfaces to identify and document current performance and forecast future trends

  • Provide oversight and direction to outside contractors supporting HMI or Ergonomics teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

  • At least 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

OR

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

  • At least 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

OR

  • PhD in Engineering , Engineering Technology or Computer Science

  • At least 4 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

  • At least 2 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and design activities

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • Engineering leadership and/or personnel management

  • Experience with automotive or heavy truck infotainment, navigation, autonomous driving, or ADAS user interface design

  • Experience with automotive industry regulation in North America such as FMVSS & CMVSS

  • Workload management including, but not limited to, tools such as Jira

  • Background in Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, Ergonomics, and/or Human-Machine Interaction Design

  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards (ISO, SAE, NHTSA) and regulation related to Ergonomics and HMI

  • Experience with software tools used in Ergonomics & HMI development (e.g. NX, RAMSIS, Figma)

  • Experience presenting to all levels of an organization
