Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies has an opening for a Space Ops Joint Exercise Planner for an important national Security Program.

The successful candidate will be a highly skilled and motivated individual willing to join a high-performance team and provide support to US Space Command’s Joint Exercise Division S7 as a Joint Exercise and Wargame Planning and Assessment Subject Matter Expert in Vandenberg Space Force Base, California and/or Colorado Springs, Colorado. In this role, you will support USSPACECOM to execute all activities in the Design, Planning, Preparation, Execution, and Analysis, Evaluation, and Report phases of USSPACECOM participated Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC).

The successful candidate should also have experience in developing Joint Training Plans, and identifying and updating training objectives from approved plans in coordination with the respective customers and participants, identifying existing and/or emerging exercise and advance training opportunities in which training objectives may be fulfilled, matching training objectives with identified exercise/advanced training opportunities, and compiling all data into a presentation for senior leadership review and approval.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

  • Experience with exercise planning and/or table-top exercises.

  • Familiarity with Joint Operations and Joint Planning Process.

  • Active TS/SCI w Poly Clearance Required.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in initiating and/or developing Government specified content for USSPACECOM S7 joint exercises, tabletop exercises and rehearsal of concept drills, or similar and relevant Combatant Command experience.

  • Demonstrated capability initiating, supervising, and developing requirements from a project’s inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs.

  • Experience providing strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff; providing detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission critical challenges/issues.

  • Ability to identify and resolve challenges at a strategic level.

  • Ability to brief and interact with senior (GO/FO) level officer and senior civilians.

  • Experience coordinating plans between internal and external staff agencies to ensure a coherent effort.

  • Current/relevant space/joint space operations knowledge and background.

  • Completion of JPME I is highly desired, and JPME II is preferred.

  • Previous experience on a Combatant Command, MAJCOM, HHQ, Joint Staff, OSD etc. staff desired.

    Essential Functions:

  • Support full-time at customer site.

  • Supporting full USSPACECOM participation in Tier 1 exercises and Tier 2 exercises each year as well as supporting the planning of combatant command wargames each year.

  • Performing planning for USSPACECOM led or supported exercises and wargames per the published Joint Exercise Life Cycles (JELC) and executing all activities in the Design, Planning, Preparation, Execution, and Analysis, Evaluation, and Report phases of a USSPACECOM participated JELC.

  • Participating in exercise and wargame events to include JELC conferences, In Progress Reviews (IPR), and execution which will routinely require travel outside of the local area, to include OCONUS locations, with possible travel outside of typical duty hours and on weekends.

  • Participating in Exercise Control Group and/or White Cell activities during execution of exercises and wargames. Participation may require shifts outside of typical duty hours and on weekends.

  • Utilizing unit readiness tools including assessments, lessons learned, objectives, and requirements to influence exercise and wargame design and intelligence planning and conducting continuous assessments and lessons learned of exercise and wargame activities contributing to the Commander’s assessment of overall unit readiness.

  • Contributing to the development CDR USSPACECOM Training Guidance and support the implementation of such guidance.

  • Maintaining integration with DoD, Allies, and Mission Partner operations and activities to ensure current and accurate exercise planning. Integration includes routine attendance at unit Operations & Intelligence (O&I) updates, working groups, operational planning teams (OPT), observations of real world and exercise events, and collaboration with counterparts.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado is $106,500 - $197,500 and in Calfornia is $122,500 - $227,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
