Your Career

As a Cross-Portfolio Automation Consulting Engineer (CE) at Palo Alto Networks, you will be able to discuss any of our automation mechanisms in our offerings. APIs, Ansible and Terraform have no secret for you. You know very well network infrastructures and cyber security operations. You know security orchestration and how it can bring value to a business’ security operations.

You are curious, like to test integrations and demonstrate the art of possible to our Systems Engineering (SE) teams and our customers. You are the “go to” resource for customer interactions that exceed standard Systems Engineering support requirements (we always expect a baseline expertise in all areas from our Systems Engineers but augment them with CEs in the advanced or new technology areas).

The Consulting Engineering role is an overlay technical role that must directly support sales delivery of quota. CEs are measured by their expertise and by their ability to lead to customer successes. As the number of CEs in the company is small, there is also a requirement for close interaction with Product Management to ensure that we continue to out-innovate our competition.

Your Impact

  • Present to customers as our expert in your technical domain at all levels in the customer hierarchy from technician to CIO

  • Lead conversations about industry trends and emerging changes to the security landscape that every customer needs to be aware of

  • Discuss, with credibility, competitive offers in the marketplace and position ours as the best alternative

  • Lead and support customer demonstrations, with our System Engineers, that showcase our unique value

  • Interact locally and remotely with customers in an equally persuasive manner

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide design consultation and best practice guidance for architecture and implementation during the 'pre sales' process for strategic opportunities

  • Provide product update and enhancement training to other SEs in the region or theatre

  • Provide demos for strategic prospects and current accounts in all facets of Palo Alto Networks’ automation capabilities.

  • Provide advanced 'Partner SE' training for updates in the Palo Alto Networks product suite

  • Working with Product Management, Technical Marketing and R&D to create requirements and product features for our large customers and provide feedback from customers

Your Experience

Technical Requirements:

  • Proven experience in design, architecture and consulting, gained in a technology company

  • Proven ability to engage effectively with clients, partners and internal sales teams

  • Expert understanding of automation mechanisms

  • Demonstrable experience with systems installation, configuration and administration of routers/switches, UNIX/Linux and Windows-based systems and scripting

  • Experience that emphasizes L2-L4 Networking

  • Experience in securing these environments

  • Practica experience with Ansible, Terraform, Python and good knowledge of APIs

  • Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience understanding threat signatures and their creation

  • Experience with automated pipelines (CI/CD), workflows, and awareness of DevOps culture

  • Experience with software development lifecycles (SDLC) and source code management tools like git

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience selling, demonstrating, installing and troubleshooting network infrastructure security products

  • Experience as an SE or Systems Integrator

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills and effective in customer-facing engagements

  • Whiteboarding capabilities

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to analyze complex multivariate problems and use a systematic approach to gain quick resolution

  • Focus on continuous skills development and learning experiences

  • Effective organizational and time-management skills

  • Responsible for own actions; self-motivated; consistently exhibits a positive attitude and demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” mentality to get things done

  • Team player who works well with the immediate team and channel partners, and can coordinate productive engagement with product, marketing, and other members of the extended team

  • Willingness to travel within the EMEA region when required
