Purpose

Directs and controls sales activities in relation to distribution of Scotiabank originated Equity Linked Notes in Europe while ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Directs an effective sales and marketing strategy to secure new, profitable business as well as further develop existing client relationships in order to achieve sustainable revenue growth.

This role falls into scope under the Certification Regime and requires the individual to be internally ‘Certified’ as a significant harm function.

Accountabilities

  • Establish European distribution network for Structured Notes. Implement equity linked EMTN with associated support model in line with European regulatory requirements.

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Manages and oversees day-to-day sales activities including the distribution of all equity-linked structured notes in Europe with a focus on maximizing both all-Bank revenue. Including distribution of North American products to European clients.

  • Develops wide range of sophisticated investment strategies utilizing over-the-counter and non-vanilla derivatives. Product responsibilities may include structured notes with embedded non-vanilla equity options, equity forwards and total return swaps.

  • Oversees entire product lifecycle for structured notes origination in collaboration with internal business stakeholders in GBM, Canadian Banking, Wealth Management, GRM, Legal, Compliance, Tax Finance, GBME and GWO.

  • Works closely with GED Trading to identify new business opportunities and to ensure product strategies are consistent with both client demand and risk appetite of the trading desk.

  • Fosters new and existing client relationships in addition to cross-selling existing relationships across other areas and product groups.

  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience

  • Extensive expertise in Structured Products and cross-markets Derivatives with focus on Structured Notes including Principal Protected Notes, Principal at Risk Notes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong business development skills with proven ability to work with several stakeholders at multiple levels within the organization.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency with respect to people leadership.

  • FCA/PRA Certified Individual
