Our Team:

In the Commodities Data Team, we’re responsible for on-boarding, modelling and maintaining data that are fit for purpose for our clients. More than 320,000 business leaders rely on the real time financial information available on the Bloomberg Professional Service. Our products run on intelligence and insight provided by the Commodities Team. Our team of analysts provide valuable data and insights to key decision makers within the commodity markets.

We are responsible for the data management of datasets across Power and Gas, Oil, Carbon, Agriculture and Metals. The team provides relevant, timely, and accurate data to empower customers to drive their analysis of commodity markets, both pricing and fundamentals.

The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Carbon Data Product Owner, based in our London office. As the Carbon Data Product Owner, you will proactively manage the data strategy for carbon data that feeds into Bloomberg products. You will use your market knowledge and data management skills to maintain and evolve a business plan for this domain across various Bloomberg platforms. You will collaborate with other departments such as Product and Engineering and play a key role in empowering our clients to make well informed business decisions. In addition, you will need to develop a proven understanding of our core workflows and market coverage for both pricing and fundamentals, focusing on compliance and voluntary carbon markets. You will also be involved in our data modelling efforts, expanding our semantic data model and improving the discoverability of our content. This is a great opportunity for someone that wants to combine commodity subject-matter-expertise and technical skills to generate premium content for our terminal users.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Be able to communicate and prioritize businessneeds and desired outcomes that guide the strategic direction for the carbondata product.

  • Design and coordinate processes to ensure highquality of commodities data.

  • Have a strong understanding of data pipelinesfor the automated ingestion, preparation and storage of data.

  • Function as a central resource with otherBloomberg functions (e.g., product, engineering) as the commodities data movethrough their lifecycle.

  • Ensure deliverables are well understood, and inalignment with the overall business goals

  • Establish relationships with market participantsand ensure client needs and trends are accounted for within our product design

  • Strategically advise those involved in thedesign, modification and evaluation of all phases of a specific commoditiesdata set or group of data sets

  • Work with Sales to promote our product toclients and understand and anticipate our client needs in an analytical fashion

  • Stay on top of market developments and clientneeds and use your market knowledge to perform market analysis and generatepremium content

  • Assist our world-renowned client support helpdesk with raised client inquiries, and upskill our clients through training

You’ll need to have:

  • Strong understanding of compliance and voluntarycarbon markets

  • 4+ years of experience with data analysis usingtools such as Python, SQL, Excel

  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience working withcommodities markets and products

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills,with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverseaudiences.

  • Experience in data quality management thatensures data is ready to use, for example, developing proactive data qualitystrategies, crafting metrics to measure data quality and reporting acrossorganizations

  • Strong interest in problem solving particularlyto modify and improve processes and workflows

  • Excellent written and verbal communicationskills, especially when explaining technical processes and solutions tobusiness partners and management

  • Ability to influence others and lead change bycommunicating and coordinating with internal/external groups to define projectscope and meet project deliverables across the implementation process

  • Effective project management skills and abilityto prioritize tasks accordingly

We’d love to see:

  • An advanced degree/masters/PhD in a STEM subjectof Economics/Finance/Sustainability/Environmental Science

  • Experience using a scrum agile process

  • Work experience in data product owner/managerrole or related fields such data quality, data modelling, and/or dataarchitecture

  • Experience working with semantic data structuresto model the commodities domain and drive the interoperability across datasets

  • Understanding of large-scale, distributed,end-to-end systems.

  • Exposure to the Bloomberg Terminal and/orEnterprise data products.

  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and project management best practices.

  • Understanding of Data Governance and DataManagement, supported by industry certifications (e.g. DAMA CDMP, DCAM, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Graphing technologies and ontologylanguages and standards such as OWL, RDF, SKOS, and SHACL.
