Job Overview:

The Monitoring Technician is responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The technician delivers telemetry to inpatient units and performs monitor connection/discharge, patient preparation, and teaching related to the monitor.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of all orientation programs

Preferred:

  • Telemetry and/or successful completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia course

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift

  • Per Diem

  • Scheduling will vary based on the needs of the department

Essential Functions:

  • Measures, interprets and document all elements required for cardiac rhythm strip interpretation and place on patient s chart

  • Notifies RN of episodes of class III arrhythmias and documents appropriately. Gives reports to oncoming shift

  • Recognizes significance of a prolonged PR interval, widened QRS complex and prolonged QT interval

  • Sets high and low cardiac alarm limits as per physicians order

  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry Answers telephone/vocera and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm

  • Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry, and transport monitors. Notifies Clinical Director of missing and broken transmitters and malfunctioning cardiac monitors. Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Biomed

  • Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Monmouth Medical Center.

  • Performs other duties as requested
