What You Will Do

The CSP will become a team member for a highly visible Infrastructure Services Division (ISD) group that manages enterprise services for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This specific team is designated under Infrastructure Services (IS) and part of the Linux Server Institutional team. The technologies we manage have an expectation of being available 24/7 and as such, members of the team are expected to be efficient and dedicated professionals to accomplish that expectation. The Systems Administrator will primarily work on Linux Red Hat OS over the lifespan of three different networks and, once cleared, will be expected to work on the classified network. The technologies you will use include Linux Red Hat administration, Microsoft Windows Server administration, Perl Scripting, Hostmaster, and Microsoft Active Directory.

The CSP2 is a customer-oriented professional who possesses the ability to build and administer Linux Red Hat servers and occasionally, Microsoft Windows Servers. Typical duties include server operating system maintenance and troubleshooting, creating and executing basic Perl and PowerShell scripts for automated tasks, using a support ticket system (ServiceNow), and assisting in the reviewing of design and implementation of services related to the Enterprise Secure Network (ESN).

The CSP2 Systems Administrator will have knowledge of administrating Linux RHEL and Microsoft Windows servers with limited training and supervision. The successful candidate will participate in the administration of customer solutions for the present and the future.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Linux RHEL and Microsoft Windows servers.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in virtual environments, including VMware.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and technologies.

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills on Linux RHEL and networking.

  • Ability to read, write, and translate technical ideas into verbiage that can be delivered to a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated skill in working professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to maintain a successful work environment and complete mission.

  • Demonstrated experience creating and executing basic Perl and PowerShell scripts for automated tasks.

Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience installing certificates using the OLT PKI Certificate Tool or equivalent product.

  • Current Red Hat (RHEL) Certified System Administrator

  • Active DOE Q-Clearance

  • Demonstrated experience working with Hostmaster or equivalent product.

Work Schedule:

* * Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
