Position Overview

The Director / Vice President, Kiewit Development Company (KDC) will be located in Los Angeles or Lone Tree, CO area, alongside other locally based team members. The individual will be part of a geographically dispersed team with staff located across North America and will work on all aspects of project origination, development, financing and execution of development and project finance opportunities across North America.

The role will require travel across the United States and Canada, however the focus will be on originating, developing and executing diversified investment and construction opportunities in the United States.

District Overview

Kiewit Development is the development, investment and asset management arm of Kiewit. Formed in 2009, Kiewit Development supports Kiewit’s design and construction activities with a dedicated team of project management, development, investment, finance and asset management professionals located across North America. We develop projects across North America in all markets and business segments in which Kiewit participates. We work closely with public and private clients to understand their needs and constraints and deliver comprehensive solutions that meet those needs. We support projects from start to finish with in-house expertise in areas including: market development, teaming, proposals, legal and commercial, financial and technical. In addition, we oversee the delivery of our assets during construction, commissioning and operations.

Location

Position is located either in our Lone Tree, CO or downtown Los Angeles, CA office. Eligible for full relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and subsequently evaluating opportunities for Kiewit to use its development and finance expertise to create engineering and construction opportunities (which may or may not result in the deployment of balance sheet equity)

  • Lead the preparation of internal and external documents including investment approvals, project briefs, internal and external presentations

  • Take an active role in the training and development of team members to ensure positive growth opportunities exist within the team

  • Manage multiple work streams for project pursuits including management of external consultants

  • Develop project finance models to assess project feasibility and viability

  • Review complex third party financial models used for evaluating and bidding opportunities on a range of project finance opportunities, including DBF, DBFOM and other alternative procurement projects

  • Review complex legal documentation and project finance related structures

  • Support project teams and group management in all other areas as required

  • Lead or support pre-qualification and qualification submissions for pursuits

  • Identify and lead detailed research on identified industries to support business plan development

  • Represent the team and company at industry conferences, seminars, etc.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business, engineering or math, or a general arts /science degree combined with post-graduate degree in business, law or strong applied experience

  • CPA or CFA designation is a plus

  • 10+ years of experience, with 5+ in relevant field relating to the sectors listed below:

  • Past work experience in one or more of the following sectors: energy (traditional energy, solar, wind, hydro), industrial power (campus, district, etc.), RNG, gasification, digital infrastructure, corporate development, banking, capital markets

  • Experience with project finance considered beneficial but not critical if similar skills and experience have been developed in other related industries (i.e. corporate finance, corporate development, M&A, internal acquisitions group, etc.)

  • Ability to review and interpret complex legal and financial agreements and summarize key issues (i.e. project agreements, power purchase agreements, purchase & sale agreements, finance term sheets, etc.)

  • Understanding of general accounting and taxation principles

  • Extended work hours and travel may be required

  • Ability to travel freely between Canada and the U.S.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills including presentation skills and development of professional quality printed materials

  • Demonstrated history of working as part of a team, as well as managing other team members

  • Very detail-oriented and ability to work and think independently

  • Experience working with diverse internal stakeholder groups in a large corporate environment

  • Experience managing external consultants

  • Excellent organizational and co-ordination skills with the ability to effectively manage time, priorities and multiple tasks#LI-MD1

Base Compensation: $225,000/yr - $250,000/yr
