VCA Animal Hospitals Financial Coordinator in Los Angeles, California

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital is seeking a Financial Coordinator to join our thriving veterinary practice in Los Angeles, California.

In this position you will review all billing codes prior to services rendered, for accuracy and adherence to payer specific requirements, for a multi-specialty veterinary practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Capturing and reviewing daily charges from the Electronic Medical Records via WoofWare and Smartflow to ensure standard coding and billing guidelines are followed correctly.

  • Communicating effectively and respectfully, both in verbal and written form, with providers or clinical staff to obtain missing or incomplete information as well as updating owners regarding finances.

  • Auditing the imported charges against the daily patient list to ensure all charges have been captured correctly.

  • Providing in a timely manner treatment plans for inpatient and outpatient diagnostics, procedures and hospitalization.

  • Accurately posting all payments paid at the time of service to the patient’s account.

  • Auditing and balances daily payment totals to treatment/s received or being received to a patient.

  • Reviewing and finalizing patient accounts prior to the close of the workday, with time permitting.

  • Reviewing Woofware and Smartflow tracking reports to ensure all charges are accounted for in a timely manner.

  • Maintaining professional and courteous relationships with all team members at all times.

  • Alerting department manager of any issues needing further research.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining strong knowledge of veterinary medicine and veterinary terminology, as well as various VCA coding and billing guidelines.

  • Utilizing the correct coding initiative when billing for multiple services during the same hospital stay and understands how to correctly apply Modifiers.

  • Informing Patient owners, Doctors and various support staff when additional account balance reviews are needed.

  • Audits outside laboratory reports to ensure proper billing to the client as well as the hospital

  • Maintain up to date records of employment in order to facilitate proper employee discounts for all VCA Associates that present to VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital

  • Knowledgeable in applying various complex discounts following proper hospital policy

  • Researching financial rejections and works cooperatively with appropriate staff to resolve discrepancies. IE Helping the client apply for Care Credit.

  • Utilizing various coding and billing references to resolve complex billing scenarios.

  • Consistently following internal coding and billing protocols and policies.

  • Demonstrating a commitment to expanding coding & billing knowledge by participating in various continuing education opportunities each year.

  • Demonstrating a positive willingness to take on additional assignments and responsibilities.

  • Providing training to new employees in a timely fashion.

VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training.

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $21.00 to $24.00 per hour.
