Description We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Patient Financial Counselor in the Healthcare, Hospitals, and Social Assistance industry. The role is based in Los Angeles, California, 90032, United States. As a Patient Financial Counselor, you will be responsible for insurance collections, insurance verification, and authorization in a hospital setting, specifically within Revenue Cycle or hospital reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Review revenue reports and ensure discharge billing is clean

• Expertise with insurance authorizations

• Plan and conduct audits of medical claims against established criteria based on all types of payor including HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, Research, and Workers Compensation

• Review and reconcile encounters on the DNFB/EBEW reports

• Resolve daily issues focusing on reducing the Patient Access DNFB (Discharged, Not Final Billed)

• Work on Past Due Encounters with charges daily, identifying if activation of the encounter is appropriate or escalating the encounter to the hospital charge auditor for review

• Review and audit claims for coding accuracy, benefits payment, and compliance through a thorough understanding of requirements for financially clearing patients for transfer and or admission

• Interpret and comprehend insurance benefits and division of responsibility (DOFR) for all types of payors

• Ensure appropriate plan code usage and all elements required to ensure clean claim submission that supports Revenue Cycle Goals and initiatives

• Analyze audit results to determine root cause of errors and recommend process improvements

• Review error trends to identify training opportunities. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a patient financial counseling role or similar within the healthcare industry

• Proficient in medical billing and understanding of medical terminology

• Experience with hospital admissions and hospital inpatient services

• Demonstrated understanding of HMO PPO

• Strong knowledge of insurance authorization procedures

• Proven experience in patient financial services and hospital billing

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Must be willing to continually increase knowledge and skills through ongoing detail oriented development

• Flexibility to work evening or weekend shifts if required

• Must be able to pass any additional screenings or background checks as required by the hospital or healthcare facility.
