Job Description

Maintain, repair and clean mechanical areas/equipment, handle guestroom problems, perform preventative maintenance. Operate on pressure boilers. Assist with other trade mechanics in their duties to ensure a safe, clean and well-maintained hotel.

Responsibilities

  • Work with trade mechanics as required to help with repairs and maintenance on guestrooms, caulk bathrooms, cleaning cooling towers, replacing burned out lights. Perform minor shop repairs, small electric repairs (switches and outlet replacements). Provide and plug in extension cords. Clamp on lights for exhibit set ups, occasional painting and wall covering repair.

  • Change filters on air handling equipment.

  • Clean and paint various areas throughout the hotel, as assigned.

  • Set up/breakdown of equipment needed to perform job function.

  • Follow SOPs and guidelines for performing duties.

  • Maintain complete knowledge and comply with hotel policies and departmental policies and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of the hotel facilities.

  • Other special duties as assigned.

    SECONDARY FUNCTIONS :

  • Perform the necessary repairs to moderately complex equipment such as vacuum cleaners, toasters, lamps and small appliances as needed. Work is performed in a workshop environment and requires working at a workbench.

  • Assist in the training of other engineers in operation, maintenance and repair of hotel equipment.

  • Due to the nature of the business, the Shift Engineer may be required to do other job duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor, such as assisting other trades.

  • Assist in planning of work schedules and coordination of preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Assist in ordering of repair parts and supplies necessary for the orderly execution of duties. Communicate needs to Director of Engineering.

  • Willingness to be cross-trained in other trades within engineering.

  • Qualifications

  • Previous maintenance experience required, hotel experience.

  • One year of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment experience is required, commercial refrigeration experience is a plus.

  • Previous experience with response to emergency situations is required.

  • Good communication, attention to detail, time management, computer and guest satisfaction skills are required.

  • The ability to stand/walk for long periods of time.

  • The ability to crawl for short periods of time.

  • The ability to bend, reach over-head, squat, kneel for extended periods of time.

  • The ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

  • The ability to utilize step stools and ladders.

    Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of skilled trade activities in plumbing, repairing walls, carpentry, electrical and mechanical work and painting.

  • Some basic knowledge in reading blueprints and schematics.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.

  • Skilled in the use of a variety of trade tools, both manual and electrical.

  • Skilled in estimating time and materials for job assignments.

  • Basic ability to clear drains and maintain drains and use of associated equipment.

  • Working knowledge of cleaning swimming pool system.

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding or use a man lift to work at heights up to 30 feet, often times reaching above head for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform duties in confined spaces and in awkward positions.

  • Ability to perform task requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances.

  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform essential job functions during the duration of the work shift.

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom require patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and solve customers concerns.

  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

  • Ability to work cohesively with a diverse work force and clientele.

  • Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to learn and take directions from co-workers, supervisors and managers on duty (i.e., trade mechanics).

    Pay rate: $25.78 - $28.65/hr. The pay scale provided is a range that Omni Hotels & Resorts reasonably expects to pay. Actual compensation offered may fluctuate based on a candidate’s qualifications and/or experience
