We are seeking Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Lowell, MI. Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Work assigned schedule and meet attendance requirements.

  • Implement current product design changes and improvements.

  • Working with technical lead engineer evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using appropriate judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications to current product designs, as directed.

  • Properly update and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for assigned projects.

  • Formally document test plan in DVP&R. Work closely with test lab to appropriately sequence samples and execute the test plan in an effective manner.

  • Update or develop engineering drawings utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Update, or develop, 3D CAD models that communicate design intent to other team stakeholders.

  • Effectively communicate engineering principles and deliverables to other team stakeholders.

  • Effectively communicate project requirements to third party companies supporting engineering efforts and responsible for performance and delivery of correct engineering deliverables from the third party company.

  • Complete tolerance stacks to determine appropriate print dimensional controls.

  • Effectively leverage advantages of CAE resources including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Variation Simulation Analysis (VSA) to improve confidence in design and reduce development time.

  • Track progress to resolution of design issues and appropriately disperse tracking documentation.

  • Identify potential roadblocks to resolving design concerns and work with technical lead engineer develop contingency plans.

  • Keep formal engineering records of engineering activity. Prepare summary documentation for current work as appropriate to support project needs.

  • Provide product engineering deliverables as needed to support Engineering Change Release and Notification.

  • Attend courses, seminars, conferences, and participate in user groups to maintain and increase level of knowledge regarding the industry, technologies, and applications appropriate to current and future business opportunity

Education and Skills Requirements

  • BSME, or equivalent,

  • 5+ years experience in product development as well as knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and parametric CAD modeling.

  • Knowledge or certification in DFSS is preferred.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks modeling is preferred, with NX 9 or newer Unigraphics a plus.

  • Marine experience is beneficial but not required.

  • Must be flexible to split time between office environment, engineering lab, and model shop.

  • Some travel may be required.
