Abbott Area Automation Technical Specialist in Macquarie Park, Australia

This is a position with Abbott Transfusion Medicine (Diagnostics) division which will be responsible for implementation and support of laboratory automation systems and in the highly regulated transfusion market, including blood and plasma processing sites across the Asia Pacific region. As part of our Global Service and Support organization, the ATS actively works with area project teams to drive the successful hardware implementation of laboratory automation solutions. With advanced technical, communication and leadership skills, the ATS plays a key leadership role in system installations, system upgrades and resolving escalations. The ATS will provide outstanding technical support to ensure the APAC customer experience and commercial teams are aligned with our global strategy to deliver reliable and effective solutions that create value for customers.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the technical and service lead directing and supporting the installation of automation systems in highly regulated blood and plasma screening laboratories.

  • On-site installation, configuration and optimization of automation systems.

  • Technical communication aligned with Global Service strategy to country service personnel, ensuring effective system implementation and support.

  • Integrate with laboratory’s existing instrumentation, automation and associated hardware/software infrastructure.

  • Provide technical input to the solution design process, liaising with Global Design Services and support teams as required.

  • Oversee quality records relating to system installation and CAPA.

  • Consult with project teams implement systems that meet customer needs.

  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve customer issues related to automation systems.

  • Develop and publish KPI’s / metrics to drive implement improvement processes.

  • Communicate and encourage best practices at the country and area level.

  • Play a vital role in the commercial process as an automation SME assisting with tender responses, technical questions, complaints, objection handling as required.

  • Take a lead role to develop local country automation skills to ensure self-sufficiency in automation implementations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science, Engineering or any related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years customer support / field service experience preferably working with large automated systems and health care.

  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering, electrical safety, general networking, data communication and instrumentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding service to internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrate compliance with quality processes in a highly regulated environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, organization, planning and attention to detail.

  • Experience working with Abbott instrumentation, process automation and middleware systems highly regarded.

  • Strong command of English (written and verbal) - other Asian languages desirable.

  • Excellent communications and consultative skills at all levels of an organization.

  • Valid passport and the ability to travel internationally.
