Job Duties and Responsibilities

As a 5G ORAN Field Engineer, you’ll be out in the field keeping our facilities and equipment in top form by maintaining multiple locations in your assigned area. You will be in charge of post construction checks, single site verification, commissioning, site acceptance, testing and maintaining cell sites and edge and local data center installations. You will also be evaluating our network coverage and finding ways to make it even better.

In this role, you will:

Operate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on all cell site equipment in the wireless network, including verifying site configurations and validating commissioning readiness.

Deploy and support CU-CP and CU-UP network functions using the VMWare Telco Cloud Automation Platform; conduct tests and troubleshoot configuration issues.

Perform site inspections, verify equipment such as GPS cables, backhaul fiber connections, antennas, and power setups, and check for any post-construction issues or damage.

Use tools like EXFO to conduct single-site verification, check for VSWR, PIM, RET, and identify faulty radios, ensuring proper fiber connections and performing necessary tests.

Collaborate with microwave, transport, RF, and construction teams to troubleshoot integration, commissioning, and network functionality issues during and after construction.

Maintain accurate inventory, submit reports, complete audits, resolve network tickets within SLAs, and ensure compliance with DISH installation standards and safety protocols.

Skills, Experience and Requirements

As a successful Field Engineer I, you will have:

3+ years of telecommunications experience with a focus on RAN, 4G LTE cell site troubleshooting, testing, and fiber network integration.

Proficiency in testing protocols for transport, RF, base station turn-up, commissioning, and validation, with expertise in PIM, VSWR, MIMO, RET, and fiber/LTE remote radio heads.

Experience troubleshooting antenna systems using tools like spectrum analyzers, optimizing base station equipment, and performing dark and lit fiber testing with OTDR and fiberscope.

Knowledge of base station equipment from vendors such as Lucent, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, or Ericsson and familiarity with LTE, CDMA, T1, DACS, OMP, and DC power systems like Galaxy, Alpha, or Lorain.

Training or experience in data communications, digital communications, computer support, scripting, or project management, with ability to read technical drawings and work nonstandard hours.

Must be physically capable of performing tasks such as standing, walking, bending, working at heights, lifting up to 70 lbs, and willing to travel up to 75% domestically.

Compensation: $72,623.00/Year - $103,730.00/Year
