SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer or a Commercial Credit Lead, this position performs independent analysis for new commercial loan requests and performs independent reviews of existing commercial lending relationships of a variety of sizes, but primarily of a large and complex nature. Identifies and succinctly summarizes underlying risks, identifying key strengths and weaknesses, and providing a recommended risk rating and an alternative structure, when necessary, while noting any deviations from Commercial Loan Policy as appropriate. Meets with commercial loan officers independently to discuss issues and ask questions. May provide day-to-day mentoring or support of lower-level analysts. Additionally, it is expected that this position will assist department management with the oversight of the entire commercial portfolio and/or entire loan portfolio and will work on projects that affect the department and the bank as a whole. Other critical areas include assisting with the ongoing development, maintenance and preparation of pertinent tools and reports for various commercial/other workflows (i.e., Application, underwriting, relationship review, ALLL and other), and general portfolio management and monitoring. Acts as a resource for other members of the Commercial team and embraces the established sales and service culture to maximize their contribution to the Bank’s goals.

After successful completion of training and proven abilities, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, consistent availability is expected during core business hours and agreed upon number of days per-month on site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs quality underwriting for commercial loan relationship requests in accordance with Commercial Lending regulations, policies, and procedures, particularly those of a more complex nature or those with a greater level of exposure.

  • Independently prepares and also may review work of others of the in-depth written analyses for relationships of all sizes and all levels of complexity.

  • Reviews numerous types of financial and other documents and conducts various research to prepare written analysis, spreadsheets, reports, summaries and opinions.

  • Performs in-depth financial analyses and projections, including “what-if” scenarios that test the reasonableness of projections provided and/or constructs predictive performance for stress testing using automated and/or manual analytical tools and techniques.

  • May develop new tools and techniques for particularly complex, and/or unique credit relationships.

  • Proactively and independently discusses and influences lenders and others involved in the lending process regarding covenants, conditions, alternative structures, modifications, overall assessments, action plans and turnaround requirements.

  • Participates in customer meetings as opportunities arise and warrant.

  • Considered a resource on commercial lending policies and procedures, particularly those associated with underwriting and approval requirements.

  • Proactively shares analytical knowledge and techniques with others.

  • May mentor new or junior analytical staff and may be called upon to provide training and guidance to others in the department on new and existing processes.

  • Requests from borrower or contacts other parties to provide relevant financial or other documentation or services required to facilitate the commercial lending process.

  • May be regularly called upon to assist in the oversight, coordination, and support of the work of other department members, applying department and process experience and knowledge to achieve department and bank goals.

  • Reviews existing loan files as part of relationship reviews to ensure the completeness of the file and to ensure that all files, applicable software, and systems are correct and updated timely.

  • May prepare or provide support as assigned by Management to assist with the various aspects of the management and oversight of the bank’s entire loan portfolio.

  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes in order to ensure compliance in the areas of job responsibilities, and recommends improvements or changes as needed for compliance and/or for department efficiency.

  • May assist internal and external auditors and regulators with their respective engagements.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with other department and organizational leaders and maintains operational alignment with core values, vision, strategy, and goals.

  • Ability to effectively work independently, with colleagues, and/or in teams, on multiple analyses and/or other tasks or projects, appropriately managing priorities, time, and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established timeframes.

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of Bank’s loan products and procedures.

  • Use discretion in dealing with large amounts of sensitive, confidential information, while adhering to all Bank policies and procedures

  • Regular and consistent attendance is required to continue the high standard of customer service as well as occasionally participating in before/after hours and/or weekend community events.

    LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Interacts independently with both internal and external customers.

  • Work is non-routine, analytical and complex. Procedures adhered to are prescribed by Bank, State, and Federal policy and regulations, requiring the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Role is relied upon to provide Commercial Credit subject matter information and guidance within the organization.

  • Position has an impact on the revenue of the institution.

    SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration / Accounting/Finance; MBA preferred, or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience independently underwriting complex commercial loan requests.

  • Project management skills.

  • Solid background in financial institution operating policies and procedures, banking regulations (state and federal).

  • Abrigo/Sageworks (or similar) statement spreading, and LOS software experience preferred.

  • Strong financial analytical skills with sound judgment and decision-making abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of personal/business financial statements and tax returns

  • Commercial Loan structure and commercial credit standards required.

  • Effectively use tools and systems to be able to self-manage, organize, and complete work independently, proactively recognizing potential obstacles resolving them before they become an issue, managing to deadlines, creating action plans when not on track, enabling job functions to happen with minimal oversite and meeting conditions of satisfaction.

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office Suite products and the Internet Systems administration experience a plus

  • Solid understanding and application of administration activities with an understanding of office procedures and ability to operate standard office equipment.

    The person in this position occasionally communicates with customers about banking products, their bank accounts & transactions and therefore must be able to exchange accurate information in these cases. This person frequently communicates with internal contacts and regularly with the bank vendors. They will need to, use judgment and discretion in decision making situations, interpret and follow all Bank policies and procedures, write/create reports and business correspondence, (Main Street Bank’s standard language is English). As well as the ability to:
