Job Summary: Leads the transportation operations for the New York East distribution center in Edgewood, including but not limited to routing, dispatching, hiring, along with training and development of new drivers. The Transportation Manager must ensure all drivers adhere to D.O.T. regulations, state and federal laws, and OSHA requirements, as they pertain to transportation.LEADERSHIP RESPONSABILITIES:Lead with a safety mindset that ensures that every driver, our customers, and the general public with whom our drivers interact remain injury free, always. Champion safety procedures and training to create and maintain a safety-first culture in the Transportation department.Oversee and develop drivers through one-on-one coaching, training on policy and procedures, assisting in problem resolution when required, and leading by example. Ensure all drivers are appropriately trained in job duties as well as safety and legal responsibilities.Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers. Drive associate engagement and retention.Build high-performing team by participating in interviewing and hiring drivers. Review performance, coach on service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action.Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings.DISPATCHPossess working knowledge of the morning dispatch procedures for both Class A & Class B DriversAnswer phone calls from customers, customer service, drivers, and sales representatives regarding delivery times and any issues with deliveriesAct as an intermediary between Transportation and SalesHandle callouts from drivers and/or driver helpers, provide alternate solutions for deliveries, and communicate absences and vacation requests with the Transportation Manager, Human Resources, and Payroll in a timely fashion. Troubleshoot routing and delivery issues and follow up with drivers throughout the dayProvide communications to drivers and helpersROUTINGAnalyze standard routes on an ongoing basis to determine more efficient routes and instruct routers to make any necessary changesReview driver feedback on routes to make any feasible changes to the order/sequence of current routesSupervise and audit maintenance in RoadNetSupervise and audit the Routers abilities to ensure truck maximization during the routing process in terms of weight and cube.OTHER DUTIESResponsible for identifying and recommending changes in departmental policies and practices.Continuous contact with customers or vendors requiring the provision of services, explanations, decisions, or the obtaining of routine approvals.Report driver accidents/incidents to the DOT Safety Manager and Human ResourcesReport injuries to the DOT Safety Manager and Human ResourcesMinimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Active Class A or B CDL License 5 years experience in food service delivery, preferably as a Transportation Supervisor.Good written and verbal communication skills.Must be detail-oriented with good follow-up skills.Excellent organizational skills.Must be able to multitask and handle a busy workload in order to meet strong deadlines.Possess strong interpersonal skills.Working knowledge of RoadNet is preferred.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:High School Diploma and/or equivalent work-related experience.Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.  Ferraro Foods is an equal-opportunity employer.
