Description:

Our Client is looking to hire a Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to oversee and run their EHS Department at their Headquarters in Mesa. This individual will work directly with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures for the company. This important position is tasked with a broad range of responsibilities, including regulatory compliance, safety management system oversight, and safety culture promotion. Duties also include performing safety audits, conducting safety training, and creating initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents on site. Our client performs project execution in commercial, government and high-tech industries, and the ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to safety and environmental health management.

Essential Duties:

• The Director of EHS leads and is responsible for the company’s Safety Management Program and all related elements by defining and driving a vision and associated objectives to promote and enable an ‘Injury Free Workplace’ and positive safety culture. This position champions efforts to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, Local regulations, as well as customer contractual requirements. Data collection and analysis of leading and lagging safety indicators, coupled with investigations of near-misses and incidents followed by lessons learned, will be crucial activities to deliver and maintain a best of class safety program.

• This position promotes safety awareness and ownership at both the client and customer sites by leading and influencing key players and project teams to deliver safe and compliant services. The Director will be responsible for uniting the company’s EHS staff across all projects and sites into a cohesive, high performing EHS team. The position requires knowledge in commercial high-tech work and integrated government projects. Additionally, the position promotes EHS values via communications to all employee’s, verifying safety is included in project proposal and plans, and assisting management in key communications to clients and contractors.

• The position also requires engagement and coordination across the business to generate new business contacts, opportunities, and revenues in the EHS market sector.

• The EHS Director is responsible for developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.

• This position will be charged with providing personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.

• The company has a robust safety program, the Director will be responsible for reviewing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date.

• The Director will have overall responsibility to perform safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and jobsites to identify possible safety issues.

• The EHS Director will also conduct risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, or long-term health hazards. Prepare monthly or annual safety reports and present information to management.

• This position will collaborate with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.

• The role requires an education within the safety field or a major industry recognized safety certification (CSP or CIH), having both being preferred. Strong and diverse understanding of EHS and building construction with the ability to work under pressure in a face-paced, results driven environment. This position requires management and supervisory skills and the ability to manage a diverse work force located at numerous geographic locations. Position may require travel for short periods of time where project sites are away from home office.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• CSP required

• CIH preferred

• At least 3 years’ experience as a safety director or health and safety manager

• OSHA 500 or 501 preferred

• Required knowledge of OSHA regulations

• Master’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or construction related field preferred

• Proficiency in EHS software and technologies and working knowledge of safety management software, such as iAuditor, SiteDocs, and Safesite, or other software

• Expertise in environmental compliance, construction management, and fleet management

• Experience in emergency response planning

• Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace

• Up-to-date legislative knowledge

• Leadership development experience and excellent supervisory skills
