Summary

The Field Technician is a key role, responsible for the day-to-day completion of work assignments related to testing concrete, soils, asphalt, and other construction materials. Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation

• Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly is expected, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation

• The testing process for the various construction materials (i.e., soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour

• The technician’s primary duty is to test soil densities and concrete samples (air, temperature, mix design, etc.), as well as testing other construction materials. Testing these samples requires extensive manual lifting and handling

• Weights in the zero to seventy-five pounds range are lifted frequently (From thirty-three percent up to sixty-six percent of the task period) with a frequency range of ten to thirty-five repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation

• Weights in the range of thirty-five to seventy-five plus pounds (concrete cylinders and soils) are lifted frequently (From fifteen percent to thirty percent of the task period) with a range of five to fifteen repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation

• Construction materials are manually lifted and carried distances on average ranging from a few feet to seventy-five feet, but may occasionally exceed seventy-five ft in walking distance and are unloaded manually at our lab and carried inside for testing, with or without reasonable accommodation

• On average the workdays range from eight to twelve hours

• This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions

• Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.

• This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures

Drives to job sites and conduct testing of soil, concrete, and other construction materials

Returns samples to the office for testing

Reports data in an accurate, complete, timely, and understandable fashion in accordance with applicable testing procedures

Operates testing equipment; ensuring that all test equipment used is functioning properly and maintained as required by the company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle

Operates a motor vehicle, which includes maintaining the company vehicle (schedule oil changes, check fluid levels, inside/outside upkeep)

Communicates with the dispatching team and/or field supervisor, advising of current job status and locations as required; cellular phones are to be worn at all times, and calls are to be returned immediately

Prepares testing reports using Field Data Collection (FDC) software; ability to write and retrieve emails using Microsoft Outlook

Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable

Completes daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy

Turns in required paperwork daily

Regular attendance is required

Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs; overnight and weekend schedules may be necessary to support business needs

Follow all company safety procedures and policies

Required Qualifications:

Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).

Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.

Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports.

Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.

Preferred Qualifications:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

ACI Level I Certification

Earthworks Construction Inspection Certification - Level I and II
