JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Harrisburg is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker (General) A - (Landscape/Grounds) . Duties include:

  • Plant, transplant, weed, spray, prune, and cultivate trees, grass, shrubbery, etc.

  • Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers

  • Fertilize, mow, and seed lawns as required

  • Assist immediate supervisor in compiling daily work schedules

  • On a daily basis, work with and assist employees in proper landscape methods and procedures

  • Correct improper methods and procedures

  • Inspect all grounds, lawns, landscaped areas

  • Inspect all grounds, lawns, landscaped areas, and landscaping on a regular basis to ensure that they are maintained in a neat, clean and orderly condition

  • Report conditions and correct where necessary

  • Distribute materials, equipment and tools as necessary

  • Install all landscape areas on campus; plant and landscape materials; maintain job-progress records and prepare necessary reports

  • Interpret simple sketches and/or specifications

  • Operate front-end loader for earth moving and vehicle loading operations; perform minor repairs and adjustments

  • Operate trucks, tractors, power grounds equipment, power saws, chain saws, pneumatic hammers

  • Maintain athletic areas; mark fields

  • Remove snow and ice as directed; spread chemicals, sand, cinders and other anti-skid material on walks, roadway and parking areas

  • Assist with other services, i.e., preparation and setups for special events and clean up following the events

  • Report needed repairs on or about building or grounds to the supervisor

  • Operate University vehicle as required

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. A Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator`s License Category 6 and 7 required. 9 to 12 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
